100's of verses of him being angry in the Bible yet he states: "Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil." "But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness." "Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly."
So God can be angry yet he tells us not to be angry?

Because of the sin of mankind. He explicitly told Adam to NOT eat of the tree, and he did. And then sin entered the world. We have a sinful nature as a result and at enmity with God.
But all it takes is to trust in Jesus and it all goes away. We are declared righteous in Jesus. We can exchange our sinful nature for the perfect righteousness of Jesus.

It says more about you than God that you can actually respect and claim to love a God who is so petulant and petty.
God was angry, sure enough. There's plenty in the Old Testament about that. But that's of the old, former ways. He hasn't been angry since Jesus came along. I certainly can't explain any of that or justify his former ways, but it's no longer relevant. Maybe you can ask the Jews (and some so-called 'Christians') why they remain in that.
If you stay in the past, you'll only see through the eyes of the past. Jesus represented - and still represents - the present and future. Just move on accordingly.
Cause we deserve it! Have you ever turned on CNN or Fox? But in case it makes any difference to you athiests, he's angry at us like a father gets angry with their child. No hate, just love.

Revelation 6:16-17 "They called to the mountains and the rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?""
Ever read Revelation? The wrath of the Lamb will be poured out on a sinful world. But we can avoid it by trusting in Jesus.

But that makes no sense for a god that is omnipotent and omnicognisant. Knowing what would happen before He began to create he set up a scenario that was - frankly - entrapment to blame on man what God wanted to do...to burn sin out of us to be fit for heaven, according to Paul (1). The sin -nature was put into us by God and he must have known it.
So, yes, I get the whole elaborate crucifixion -thing was set up to create a loophole in His Law which for some reason he couldn't abolish, but being angry with us for his whole set up? How does that make any sense? Even if any of those myths and reworking of the Myths were true, a vengeful god is a human invention. It has to be. To keep people frightened and desperate.
(1) 12 cor 3. 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.

I've read the entire Bible two times. I know what's in there. The difference with me is that I'm not tainted by the outside teachings from the "church", who distort and corrupt. And no, I don't recognize Revelation as a useful 'book'. Everything we need is contained in the Gospels and Acts.
