Keeping our focus on the laws of the Old Testament.

In Numbers, chapter 5, God gives Moses commands. God offers no choice or remedy if a women suspects her husbands' cheating ways. However, the husband requires no evidence that his wife has been unfaithful. If he "thinks" his wife is cheating on him, that's all he needs to bring her to the priest to test her.

(Now here is the fun part.)

The priest gathers up dirt from the tabernacle floor, mixes it with water, and forces the woman to drink the concoction. If she was guiltless, nothing would happen as a result of the cursed water. If she was guilty, she would become ill. Any woman with a jealous husband had to consume it. (ala 1692)

Why would God command such a law?

Well, I, for one, don't know why God commanded this. But I have faith that if he commanded it, he certainly was capable of using it to bring out the truth of the situation.

I don't know either but like you I believe God had His reasons.

PHM, apart from what Nana and ILNC said above, you'll just have to ask Him when you meet Him. It's His word and His Bible, I do the best I can with it, but no one has all the answers.

I've noticed most of your questions come from the Old Testament. While I wouldn't want this to be interpreted disrespectful to God's Word, I would strongly urge you to focus on the New Testament. Old Testament is beneficial, New Testament is crucial.

I don't know what the 'we' in your quote represents. But Christians are are not required to follow the 10 commandments. I can't imagine a born-again Christian not wanting and trying to follow them...but they are not a requirement. Christ is all we are required to follow.

I suppose it is true that many believe that they are not required to keep the commandments although I believe I personally am. One may not keep all the commandments but that does not mean that breaking them is not sin or transgression and does not need repenting.

YES we are required to follow the laws although Jesus fulfilled the blood sacrifice requirement and replaced it with blood/wine bread/body sacrament

dream, what I'm trying to say is that keeping/breaking the commandments aren't a requirement for salvation. Again, I can't imagine a born-again Christian purposely setting out to break a commandment, but again....requirement??

If you keep them, you aren't saved.

If you don't, you're not condemned.

I don't know about the LDS and I haven't gotten that thread off the ground. Does the LDS teach them as a requirement?

If you are a Christian, this is an incorrect statement.

I defer you to the link above in my previous post.

This statement you are making, short changes the sacrifice of Christ, and, in fact, there's even New Testament verses that specifically say Christ is the end of the law, and that Christ specifically made 'all foods clean' with one of His statements.

We are absolutely set free from the Old Covenant by Christ, the New Covenant.
