We keep being told that we were not "true christians(tm)" to begin with or we just never found jesus or we never found the right church.

How is it then that we hear of deconversion stories from all around the globe and the theme always seems to be the same? Conned out of money, church was not there for you when you needed encouragement etc.?

There obviously is the same delusion shared by all xian churches. So many ex-christians testify of a liberation far more fulfilling than their supposed rebirth experience, some even refer to this as a "born-again" atheist.

As they say in a gospel song, come to the light, the light however is not found in the church nor religion.

Rebellious? I wonder about this myself. I sometimes seems like it. Either rebellious, or maybe just seeking attention by poking fun at those with faith.

Or maybe we just explore and take all evidence into account and come to this conclusion. Or maybe we dont feel the need to have some other purpose in life other than to just live it, or maybe we don't need to follow anything or anyone to feel special and loved. I am not rebellious. I just don't believe in fairy tales.

Methinks you have a quaint biased view?

If we rebel, it is rather at the proponents of theism than against a fictitious god. Seeking attention would go for all the theists that post here too.

Yes we poke fun at ridiculous claims. Anyone that simple states "I believe..." and does not try and advance that as ultimate truth, I/(we) leave alone.

It would be nice if you can offer some perspective on the lack of the church involvement when folks go through a "crisis of faith" or start asking awkward questions.

First as this isn't the atheist/agnostic forum I think the tone of "See the Light, Come to Irreligion" is possibly inappropriate. Judging from what atheists say here general is to be more generalized. (Unless you are of a religion without a subgroup)

Anyway you can hear all kinds of stories if you're looking for them. My Dad was atheist or agnostic before becoming Catholic. You can hear stories like that all around the world too. Or stories of Christians going Buddhist and Buddhists going Christian and so forth.

In specific you see or remember "de-conversion stories" because that's likely the kind of narrative you relate to or find interesting. That's about all it means. People leave Christianity and people enter Christianity from other things. In Europe and North America more leave than enter, but in Africa or Asia it's generally the opposite. People also leave religion and they enter religion. Albania saw a resurgence of religion after their atheist-state collapsed. According to Pew the "religiously unaffiliated" have a pretty low retention rate. Many to most unaffiliated aren't atheists though. Still it's not unheard of (and no it's not unheard of, no matter how much atheists insist otherwise) for atheists to adopt a religion after having kids or getting married or dealing with a health problem or studying different philosophies.

It could be argued that atheism is the ultimate rebellion.

No it couldn't. One cannot rebel against that which one does not believe even exists to begin with.

If you were to remark that the moon is not made of green cheese, would that be rebelling?

It's not just atheists it's mankind in general who has rebelled against God. This is nothing new and has been the case even before Jesus time.
