You could have unplugged the fans to sleep if they bothered you that much. I had a washing machine spring a leak and had three of them at various places around the house. I hardly sleep so it didn't bug me but my wife slept just fine. Your LL isn't going to put you up in a hotel over this, that's what renters insurance is for.
I'm sorry you had to put up with all this. I have no idea if you could be reimbursed for the hotel, but you can try. Be sure to get renter's insurance if you don't have it; it's VERY affordable.
Those suckers are loud. Had a pipe burst on our second floor a few years ago and we had the fans and dehumidifiers on all 3 levels - including finished basement, so nowhere to hide.
At the end of the second week we started shutting the one off in the kitchen so we could hear each other talk during dinner.
We didn't have an issue sleeping - I though they would drive my 3 children crazy, but they were fine.

It's unlikely renter's insurance would pay for a hotel in these circumstances. They would go by the same standard of whether it was habitable or not, and an entirety functional home with a loud fan is still habitable.
It's good you feel that way because I don't think you'll be reimbursed for the expense.
I concede this is a very likely possibility, but since I'm not in the habit of leaving money on the table, I had to ask the question. I did file a claim with my renter's insurance company, will see what they say.

Yep, I filed a claim. As for unplugging the fans, the carpet cleaners told us specifically not to do that or it would take forever to dry and mold would start creeping in, so we did the sensible thing instead. We are moving anyways and I am betting the carpet is on its last breath anyhow, but no reason to leave the next tenants the gift that keeps on giving. Like I said, I get that accidents happen and if we are out of pocket, so be it.

Thank you. Yeah, renter's insurance is mandatory in our complex.

I find it very hard to fathom that a small apartment with no functioning kitchen and a huge loud fan in its place can be considered habitable, but we will see what MetLife says, I suppose.

They may agree it was uninhabitable & cover two nights hotel at $149 each.. After your deductible, you'll still get nothing.. This isn't worth fighting over.
