I have not read all the posts, but my feeling is that I’m going to take care of #1, that being myself. I’m not running a charity, so I’m going to have stringent guidelines.

There are places that deal with every level of renter, but that’s not me.

Well maybe you need to start with a job first .

To get a capital one secured card you need to earn 425 a month more than your rent

But you have an income and I assume tax returns that prove your income... unless you’re 100% cash and don’t file taxes.

So far, I am getting along fine without a credit card. What problem will I face down the road?

Your auto insurance is likely priced based on credit score , an employer may screen you for a job , You at some point may need a loan , you may decide to sell , relocate and rent at some point .

Nothing is ever a problem for us , until it’s a problem

You are right and I am scared of the unknown. An emergency trip to the hospital can wipe out even a millionaire.

My wife and I had covid that required two weeks of hospitalization....

So far all we got is the hospital bill ...that includes no doctors ,no ambulance , no home care stuff .

It was just under a quarter million dollars for the two of us ...we have Medicare and a supplement ...it cost us ten bucks so far

Oh, no one ‘needs’ a credit card... but, you should at least have a debit card.

Your lack of credit could become problematic down the road, but when you have enough cash, you don’t ‘need’ credit... however, no one here can really answer that for you.

You don’t need the credit as much as you may a good score .

If you want to rent most landlords go by that

What you pay for auto insurance is tied to your score

Opening utilities needs a good score

You may be evaluated by that score for a job

There are loads of reasons you can end up being judged by that scorer your report
