Most identity thefts are not looking to peek at your card as Op originally said. Its gone way beyond that to even gaining access to your computer and information you put there thru same method your reading this.

There's no way to prevent Identity Theft the real issue is cleaning it up. ID theft isn't always just financial. It can be healthcare, criminal, drivers license, personal as someone saying they are you, or just theft if it involves banking.
