I have to say -- I did reconnect with an old boyfriend on FB. I had someone warn me that to do so was to endanger my marriage, as I would fall in love with him all over again.
I adored that man when I was in high school, but I knew it was for then and not forever. When I met my husband it wasn't long before I knew it was forever. Clear difference.
Facebook only showed me how right I was. He and I were so incredibly wrong for each other we would have made each other miserable. AND. He was happily married with two adorable kids and a lovely wife. Which is something I would have never thought he could be. I was happy for him.
Then the political rants started and he got booted.
It's instant social networking which allows me to share my favorite photos and information with real friends from my childhood, other retirees from my years of employment, family, some cyber friends I haven't met yet, and in turn I'm kept informed on their lives
All are positive reasons for FB's popularity and why I am one of its participants
See smiles Last night I had a couple of late night chats with a friend in Alabama and one in California. It's quieter then talking on the phone and didn't disturb my sleeping hubby. I haven't thought about putting it on Youtube. It might be lost on strangers?
That was hysterical! Actually, I think social networking sites help to promote videos such as this...people "share" funny videos/pictures on Facebook all the time.
I love Facebook. I love seeing what my friends are up to and pictures of their children and grandchildren. If it wasn't for FB I'd probably never get to see this stuff.
Both my wife and I (both retired) are on Facebook. The primary reason has already been mentioned several times ... keeping in touch with people. For me, that means our son and daughter, my two sisters, and numerous friends I don't get to see all that often since they live hundreds of miles away.
My joining Facebook surprised me. I was the holdout in my family - I just didn't see the point. But as more of the people I care about in this world joined, I didn't see the point of *not* joining.
I enjoy it.
Fortunately, there's nothing mandatory about being on Facebook. We are all free to join, or not, or join and then leave.
I have a theory that there are a few groups who won't use it:
* Old Fogies
* Extremely paranoid people
* Anti-social people
* Luddites
* Emotionally unstable people (with extreme volatility issues)
I work in Cyber security and information technology and you couldn't pay me to use any of them.
But to each his own.
