We sold it and retired right here in queens where we have everything we want year round.

We have manhattan 30 minutes away , yet the preserves and parks of Long Island the same 30 minutes. Yet we have lots of lakes and ponds five minutes away

I have close friends 11 years ahead of me (FRA) and we live in the suburbs of Portland. They want to move way outside of town... I think it's kind of nuts to move so far away from services in late life. It's more of a young couple's dream. I realize it's not impossible. But, they take for granted how close they are to everything. I moved here from N CA and so I already feel I am in Bum F'd Egypt (I already compromised).

lesson learned by many.

The sooner you learn this during your RE investment yrs the better.

Each situation has plenty of reasons / drama, side stories. Fortunately it is not the end of the road (yet), time remaining to make alternate choices.

A couple that enjoys and feeds on urban life, is probably not going to find lasting joy living in the boonies, and away from family and friends.

For others... that is a perfect formula and life-long pursuit.

Many rural retirees we assist are very happy to be in the boonies Several have built their dream home AFTER age 70, from scratch, nail by nail, brick by brick... all by themselves.

Different strokes for different folks. None is right for all.

We just try to keep multiple living spaces at each home, just in case we need a place for a caregiver. (Or ourselves)

The poconos got beat up …they fell out of favor ……they were in huge demand at one time ..newspapers were filled with the why rent when you can buy campaign.

Well it turned out it wasn’t cheaper , and those who were told they can commute to New Jersey and New York for work easily were levied to .

Real estate taxes soared and the area kind of stalled out .

That house was 270,000 in 2004 …we paid 235k in 2006 and sold in 2012 for 235k .

The people we sold to sold in 2016 for 180k so since covid it saw some good appreciation if they can get in the 300k range

I live in a small town. I figured that I would move back to the city one day and live close to the medical center and military hospital in San Antonio.

Nope - not going to do it. Services aren't so bad here. Hospital is growing. EMS is just around the corner - .

Anything you need can be purchased online. There is transportation to the other towns around here. And for medical appointments also.

And as I get older - don't need to be out and about in stores etc.

The location was in big demand …the tanglwood ski park was in the center of the development…..that area thrived on skiing ..

Taxes went up in the area and the ski area eventually failed ..

The loss of the ski area which was there for a long long time was a economic shock to the area …it killed the winter business for the businesses and dried up demand for homes.

We were two hours door to door from queens …
