Then when I was working, we had tuition assistance as a benefit, so I tried to go back to night school for Accounting. I did GREAT in Accounting I, II, and III,...
I also did great in Non-Profit Accounting and Biostats in grad school. I was unable to consider any career path that would require trig or chemistry. Real deal breakers.
Algebra is all around us every day. Have you ever had any type of loan or credit card? Do you live in a house with dimensions?
I just used algebra just this morning in figuring out a complex method to divide an inheritance. I use it to adjust recipes. We may not recognize it as algebra.
Good one brightdoglover!
I haven’t thought about algebra or quadratic equations for over 40 years, but have enjoyed the back and forth in this discussion!
When I heard that a person I knew had paid $600,000 in estate taxes to one of the townships, I used algebra to figure out the estate size: $14.7 million. It was pointed out to me that that was just the size of his estate in that township, not his total estate.
You need to know algebra in order to pass the water & wastewater operator's tests. It's especially important to know how to do the math, because they can ask anything in the theory part of the test. Yes, it's a cruel, hard world.

Hahaha.
Good thing my job mostly required good writing skills, at which I excelled. I worked in the engineering industry and built my career around speaking to engineers and then translating what they said into English for the people who authorized project funding. Only half-kidding. But I briefly considered becoming an engineering myself and abandoned the idea when I realized I'd never be able to master the necessary math.
If I need algebra, I'll reach out to you. Thanks for letting me know!
I do use a smidgen of geometry when designing my quilt tops.
