Mr. Eastwood, on the other hand, well, his reputation proceeds him, he talks, people listen. Just look at it here.

He has that advantage that many of us don't, has that base that his wise words, if only a legend in his own mind, can find foundations.

Just something to keep in mind.Men talking like this for in a way, it is hilarious for women, it can be..............

Maiden, Mother, Crone.

Now whether it Men not seeing the world as such, a belief in always being not old, or them stealing being the Matriarch, I don't know. But to me, as I age, I have images to guide me of the elder Mistress of the Hacienda....or the power of Aunt Agatha in "The Shuttered Room" (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzHAG6JqSDs decent coverage of the footage, not so sure about the fan made video, and if you have never seen the flick, probably spoilers).

Smile Turning into a grouch

What I don't like is the negative things out of older person's mouths.

So what if there are 2 people in line ahead of you? Be patient.

Someone "stole" the handicapped spot? You don't know it but the young person can't walk more than 1/8 of a mile without needing oxygen.

I won't even get into road rage.

Constant criticism from older folks. I always say those being nasty or grouchy have too much time on their hands.

My husband still works (CPA). He'll get a phone call and we give him a message to call them back.
He calls them back the next day.

Then, we are at home and if a person HE calls does not call right back, he's talking about it.

Him: "No one answers their phone. They're probably working from home"

Me: "Working from home is not the issue. They may have taken another call or be out on a job. Did you leave a message?"

Him: "Yes but it's been 30 minutes and no call back"

Me: "Remember that person who called you Tuesday and you didn't call back until Wednesday?"

Him: "That was different. I had to research something."

Me: "Maybe this is the same. Don't worry - give it until tomorrow."

Wasted time and energy. Drives me crazy but I tell him to stop being a GOM (grouchy old man) and get over it. I am good about responding and if I don't get them, I sent them a text telling them I left them a VM or email.

I see quite a difference if he sits around on the weekend versus getting out there and doing something.

My counter to that......"Well, I am the Nice One.".

To get deeper into that, short version, Mom and I were talking about why old men get bitter. I said I hope I never become that. Mom said, "How can you? You have those two (then) beautiful kittens!".

Turning it a little bit further out, "who" depends on you not to be bitter, not to lose it? We retire and it may no longer be people, but can it be pets? Who depends on us to be there and not to shy away in fear?

I like both Clint and Toby. Happy to know Toby was inspired to write the song and that Mr. Eastwood was the inspiration. Toby has a way of doing that sort of thing. His list of songs, good songs, no ... great songs is extensive. And considering he's battling stomach cancer right now, I only hope he beats it and lives to be as old as Clint is today. It would be a shame to lose such a fine artist and a great humanitarian. He does a lot for veterans and his hometown in Oklahoma. He's a good man.

Talk about not letting the old man in, another great line, spoken by Jack Nicholson in The Bucket List, pretty much rings true for the older gentleman. Never pass up a bathroom, never waste a hard-on, and never trust a fart.

Is that your professional opinion doc? Or, your personal experience .

Sam Elliott was never my type (and I don't get it). Clint I just like/love and approve of... My type is James Spader. You know who else I never saw the allure of? I never realized John Ravolta was supposed to be sexy. Ugh!

Not everyone is everyone's type (tall or not).

Both professional & personal . Btw, all my relationships that got to the point of examining this question were long-term, and although I like tall boys as much as anyone, all my boyfriends were actually on the shorter side (I myself somehow leave an impression of a small person, though 5'4" is not extremely short for a woman, so maybe they figured when they saw me, "oh-la-la here's something in my size"? :-), but I think they were all really handsome. The last, late great, boyfriend was the tallest at 5'10". Other measurements we won't mention, but if all the boyfriends were on a shorter side, and I know with certainty there is no correlation with that other dimension, then you can figure it out (I do have to tell a very private story (thank goodness for anonymity of this forum :-) about the boyfriend who was 5'5". Me: Oh my, that guy is bigger than you; aren't you worried he might attack you some day? He: Eleanor, that's not funny at all).

I don't have a particular type, except that I have a real thing for long hair on a guy. Even the late great boyfriend (who was a commercial pilot) managed to sneak an element of it under the hat (the bangs, and a bit longer in the back on his neck). But he flew for an European airline; I guess maybe they were somewhat more tolerant of that? :-) Anyway, a guy with at least somewhat longish hair still gets my instant attention, although I no longer have an interest in going anywhere further than noticing him :-).

First hike of the season I had a very bad fall on a rocky trail. I’m now sadly a major couch potato until my sprained ankle , arm and rib contusions heal which could be another three weeks. I am very lucky I didn’t break or crack anything. So much for keeping active whaaaa!

Still I think whatever our genes it’s not bad advice. I am doing limited armchair exercises, and a lot of sketchbook or polymer clay art , puzzles, and can walk from a car to a coffee shop with husband.

On a different front to being old, there is something to seeing the end as nearer and hoping we check out before the world gets so bad.

Of course I worry......that's why my hand rests on the phaser control (a little Khan, if novelized, there).

Does the person we see up on the screen impress us in some way? I could say yes for at least if one way, they are showing us that the human solution does not usually work. Ie, the flick, "Natural Enemies" (Hal Holbrook) where the Father comes in with the shotgun to kill the children. Naturally, they express shock and fear and he kills them. (purely a coincidence to pick a movie of his and no reference to Magnum Force).

Not me. I am flying across the DMZ with the goal to take them out (whether I have a miniscule chance or not). Of course, the fact that I have been trained to do blitzkrieg attacks in HtH is a part of it, too.

Hence, two points. First, of this celebrity or that, what do we see? Who they were on the set/stage or off? Secondly, that could be a reason for my lagging love life in that I never totally trust (a lot of that could be from a life of being teased.....and as we are the old ones, a lifetime does come into most things), that I am less than a second from striking.
