Affordable for who? Builder gravy is made by location, size, as well as the bells & whistles. Strip all of that away & what's left is affordable. I've discussed the subject with many builders & to a man or woman, they usually say, "just ain't no money in it".

Smaller towns & higher income small cities probably do pay lip service to creating affordable housing in Mass, as in RI. What's needed today isn't necessarily Section 8 type apartments for the low/no income, as much as decent housing for low/moderate income working families.

The answer is to increase inventory, whatever "label" you put on it. The problem in RI (or MA) is not the high quality of the housing, I can promise you that much.

Yes, the bottom line seems to be lost on some here. Your rude comment is uncalled for.

Your aunt has probably only seen RI from I95. Typical, and I wish a lot more would keep on going.

I just laugh when I hear about people thinking they're going to buy cheaply in a good area in this state.
That ship sailed long ago.

However, risky investment? I think not- I've never lost money on a house in this state. Why? Because I know where to buy- but that's true of every state. And that's the purpose of this forum, although many posters would like to destroy the value of it with nothing but snide comments- over and over and over.
For every person flocking in, 1.003 are flocking out.

When was the last house built anywhere that didn't sell. Apparently quite affordable. If you're stumped and want me to tell you why Rhode Island is REALLY shedding population, please feel free to let me know.

Is there any discussion whatsoever that doesn't trigger your tired tax the rich and feed the poor claptrap?

No more than your "those that have deserve, and those that don't have, don't deserve" tune.
