Some places in NY that come to mind are Lansing(outside of Ithaca, about 12% Asian), Gang Mills(outside of Corning/Corning Incorporated, about 15% Asian), rural part of Vestal(outside of Binghamton, about 10% Asian) and Calcium(outside of Watertown/near Fort Drum, about 12% Asian). South Asians are included in these figures and there are other communities you could consider within the state as well.
I know what you mean, but there's a part you're missing. Since 9/11, Indians get mistaken for Arabic or Muslim which, in some people's minds, equals "terrorist." I'm speaking from experience. It happens in the city to us (thankfully rare, and mostly just in airports). But this is not an uncommon experience for Indian-Americans in US and Canada. The last time we drove through Georgia, we apparently scared a couple at a rest stop just by asking them to take a photo of us in front of a monument.
Your living in the wrong places or places with ignorant people. In my opinion, "Indian" is not Muslim or Arabic and if you were going strictly on physical characteristics, features, etc, someone who can't tell the difference is a dope. I think you are reading WAY too much into certain interactions.
Or, you could come to VT. We need more taxpayers and everyone is pretty accepting, if you hold a liberal ideology. Winter is a ***** though, and its coming!! Good jobs are scarce'ish, too, so there's that.
