I've been out of the country, and missed our heat wave. But I've been monitoring temps and keeping in touch with folks back home on the weather. Drove to Sac from SFO well after midnight. It was 56F in SF, Sac was 74F.
Right, he is all "heat index 109!!", as if crappy slumburban Concord is an improvement. Woah 9 whole degree difference!

Good to see you back, I was worried something had happenend to you.

Looks like it'll end up being pretty average, given the unusually high number of cool and hot days averaging each other out.

My parents live in the inland East Bay (Walnut Creek, near the Concord border), and one thing that I noticed was unusual during the past heat wave (which we incidentally didn't really get too bad at all in San Diego thank goodness) was the high nighttime temps, with record minimum lows reached several mornings in a row in at least some parts of the area. I believe Sacramento also stayed in the 70s several nights without the usual cooldown. While the triple digits aren't that special, such warm nights certainly are unusual.

The last 7 days, true Heat Wave:

Obviously, 7days of a high temp at 100 plus means a Heat Wave, but how was it different than our usual comfortable summer weather.

1. There was No Delta Breeze.
2. It didn't cool in the early evening as usual.
3. The High Pressure System was stronger than usual that capped an atmospheric river of moisture which:
Kept our low temps from dipping into the usual upper 50's and low 60's at night and in the morning, and it didn't allow the dew point to dip into the comfortable ranges of 50-59F like it usually does.

Phoenix has had 20 Days of 100-120 degrees, and averaged 10-15 degrees hotter than our heat wave. Forecast for another 7 days of 110 plus in Phoenix....

...that means 27 days of 100 plus in Phoenix, only 7 in Sacramento. What we experienced in the last 7 days would be considered normal to cool for Phoenix.

Can you imagine having to run your air-conditioner as long as you did in the last 7 days for another 70 days.....

I've lived here for over four months. I've yet to experience the celebrated Delta Breeze.

There really isn't any point in ever comparing Sacramento heat to Phoenix or Vegas, which are among the hottest metro areas on the planet. It'll almost never be that hot in Sacramento by comparison, so even when it's in the triple digits, it'll be 'relatively' nice. Comparing to the worst extreme will always make you look good. ;-)

Its fine as long as you compare your city with their good seasons, too.

LOL, 9 degrees is a significant difference. Only someone with a big bitter chip on their shoulder can't admit that.
