Hi Chim,

I'm actually looking at seasonal rainfall data from that day with higher totals for most locations. Do you use ggweather.com? I believe those are official reporting stations, and that site is managed by one of the top metrologists in the Bay Area.

SD Airport is actually at 3.38, which is 101 percent of average. Sac Airport is now 6.41. Eureka 17.03. Redding now at 12.97. Some places have only fractions more while others have inches more. Please take a look. It seems most of the state is right around average now, which is perfect. It definitely seems like a "normal" winter and rainy season.

Yesterday was an interesting rain day here, as the forecast sort of fell apart and said at the last minute we would get a lot less rain over fewer hours. But a few hours after they said it was over, it started pouring, and we got way more than originally forecast. This year has been like that, where the forecasts aren't able to predict a few hours out. Anyway, I noticed our neighborhood received substantially more rain (0.6-0.75 inches) yesterday compared to parts of SD like the airport or Clairemont (0.16-0.2 inches), and it was about 7 degrees colder all day. This morning, we're also about 10 degrees colder than coastal areas, and that seems to be consistent with other inland areas like Escondido, Poway, and Temecula. In fact, Temecula is forecast to dip down to 24f by Monday morning, although our forecast has bumped up from 28 to 31. Coastal areas will likely stay above 40. Microclimates are so fascinating in California.

Also got some nice snow on Mt Laguna yesterday, first really good snow of the season. Been hearing about Tahoe having a meager start to the season but hope that's turning around now! Looks like a chilly but dry week ahead for the state

So weird, I wonder if it's just a short lag between the two sites' updates and that they will be the same in the days ahead. Those recent days had a lot of new precip to be added.

Next week looks to be very cold on the West Coast. We will all be far below average, with Sacramento highs topping out only around 50. At least SoCal will be about 5-7 degrees warmer but I'm shocked by predictions of well below freezing temps at night in inland SoCal and not in NorCal. So our diurnal range will be about 30 degrees from day to night (20s to 50s) and about 15 degrees in NorCal (35 to 50). Already our house has been getting colder and colder every night (we love to sleep cold, so happy about it).

Cheers!

Tell me about it. I definitely had to layer up as well as wear a beanie and gloves on my walk this afternoon. Quite chilly today.

Well definitely bitterly cold. I use my electric blanket at night that is a life saver and have a snuggle electric wearable blanket on the way. Since PG&E jacked up gas heating rates need way to stay warm and not constantly run gas furnace. I cannot wait for the 100+ days to return soon enough!

If I wanted to freeze my balls off, I would live in Montana or North Dakota not here.
