Oh, I missed this...

Gas, last I looked, was $2.79 (today, 3-31-15.) Lunch today - enchilada, salad, chips, salsa, iced tea - was $12 (most lunches are under $15, some go as "high" as $20, which is considered expensive here.
Ok, I'll bite.
Where is the cheap lunch, tune-up & oil change found?
I take it you're not having lunch at Hawks.
I personally do not find Winco to be all that desirable & hardly something to brag about. And it's certainly not unique to Granite Bay.

I think you are confusing Sacramento, Roseville, Folsom or Rancho Cordova with Granite Bay. Please name one big IT/tech company based in Granite Bay.

Don't disagree -- Granite Bay is nice (hardly a secret) and yes, you'll get more there per $ than in Walnut Creek, Blackhawk, Palo Alto. But Midtown is still the better place to live in my book.

I disagree with your assessment that commutes are easy from GB. Maybe to Roseville and Folsom, but even that is a stretch. 50 mph, red light. 50 mph, red light. 50 mph, red light.

Again, yes, Granite Bay is nice. But was better before it was "discovered" and became upper class suburbia in the 1990s. Thankfully, some elements of the old GB still exist.

Basically, if you're white, and really want to live as whitely as possible surrounded by other white people, Granite Bay is the place for you to be white and not feel bad about it.
As usual, Burg engages in his tendentious race baiting, as well as a willful myopia about the many Granite Bay inhabitants of the asian persuasion now.

That said, unless your job is right there in the Roseville area, I would not call Granite Bay an easy commute. (OK, compared to the super commutes of the Bay Area that OP came from, maybe, but still you can do better here).

Maybe I should at least visit. I have always been curious about that feeling.

Hey, no snark now. That was a positive post.

No, I am not a real estate agent. No, I am not moving to SW Florida. Not moving anywhere in the near future. And no, I'm not eating at Hawks - once was enough.

My post was intended to compare GB to the Bay Area, not Folsom or Roseville. The mention of IT was in reference to the "Greater Sacramento Area," not GB per se. Compared to the BA, everything here is cheap and Winco is a steal!

Those of you with sophisticated big city experience (and I *don't* mean midtown) will get my references.

Pretty typical Placer County--"We're a great place to live, not because of things that are here, but things that are near here, like all those jobs in Sacramento and Folsom!"

And I appreciate Mr. Opinionated's snark. "Granite Bay--it's a great place to get racially profiled!"

Granite bay is great for all the reasons you listed. But it's not walkable, and I hate having to get in my car go any and everywhere. There's a lot of chainstores nearby, which I am not fond of. Also, in my experience GB people are more obnoxious than EDH people, and that's hard to do. They all think they're such high rollers. Not my cup of tea. Very happy to be returning to midtown is just 1 more month.

It's also like Blackhawk in the Danville area, it's newer and cleaner than the other communities around Sacto, and is a super-easy commute (especially compared to the SF Bay Area - here a "long" commute is considered 15 miles!) You can get to anywhere from here; it's very centrally located.

You can get the most amazing housing here; homes that would cost you several million dollars in SF can be had for $400,000 - $900,000 here - and many of these are simple unheard of in the Bay Area; they just don't have them (downside: most of them have the garage in front, but you get used to that, and you'll wonder how you ever lived without a garage!)

Also there is tons of free parking here, bathrooms available anywhere you shop, gorgeous trees and landscaping, lots and lots of parks, and trails for walking dogs, hiking and biking, spotless streets - no graffiti - no homeless, and zero crime, and I mean none. (Nearby Roseville has had some problems, but nothing even close to what happens in the Bay Area.) Well, one time some kids put bubbles in the fountain, but - hey.

If you have high-school aged kids, Granite Bay High is easily accessible from anywhere around, and there is always lots and lots for kids to do.

Your dollar goes a lot farther here in other ways, too: Tune up your car for under $125, get an oil change for under $50, get your groceries at Winco where eggs are still under $3 and a half-gallon of milk is under $2. Gas, last I looked, was $2.79 (today, 3-31-15.) On a map, draw a diagonal line between Roseville and Folsom (mega-shopping in both!) and Granite Bay is halfway in between. Easy to get to the Sierras, has an international airport, tons of sporting events.

Career-wise, the area is heavy in IT/tech, medical, real estate, mortgage and finance (no, I'm not in the industry) as well as sales of all kinds.

Check it out, you'll love it!
Signed, Been here 10 years.
I had no idea that I could find the same house I could not afford in the bay for a price of $900k in GB,which I cannot afford either. Awesome!

Too bad. It's one of the better restaurants in the area.
