I lived in Folsom for 2 years and loved it. Very sad leaving Folsom, but now, I can't imagine living away from the great things in East Sac. Corti Bros, Italian Importing, Giovanni's Pizza, I'm spoiled. It's still a far cry from what's in NY, but it will do. I get so excited everytime I'm in Corti Bros., which happens to be about once a week!

We need to trade. I'm getting depressed as it gets into the 80's. I see the weather is in the 50's in Olympia and Shelton and I can't wait to retire there!

CAN WE!!!??

I'm super depressed because this weather won't get out of the 50s!

It's really hard when your body is uncomfortable eh?

I keep my house at 75 (when I lived in Sac I kept it around 85 year long)

I used to live in Rocklin and then Lincoln...I found it boring too really. If you are not into religion here, then, you do feel like abit of an outcast. People are ok mainly, if not alittle rude at times, (just my opinion) I have 3 kids and the amount of times I was asked whether I was going to have any more and sometimes the looks I would get when I said that I thought 3 was ample!!! Their mentally was that surely I would want more as I already have a small brood and it wouldn't take much to add another 1 or 2!! You see many people in these areas have 4, 5 , 6 + kids in their family!!! Not that there is anything wrong with that of course I just don't like people to assume that I am some baby making factory!!!! LOL..))) I found the people quite forceful but then I am a laid-back Brit - so I guess I would notice this more than most people.

The schools, as well, are ok. If you don't mind your child being 'taught to the test'...CA schools rank almost bottom in this nation for education. However, there is a Charter school movement here which is trying to bring education away from the idea that kids are just mini calculators designed to spit out information on worksheets....my daughter attended a Montessori charter ( which was free because charter schools are public schools) She enjoyed it but even that had it's pitfalls as quite alot of the teachers didn't really know anything about the Montessori philosophy - I was told so often that to be Montessori-credentialed was too expensive and therefore they didn't feel able to do it!!!! Also another phenomenon which is applicable to all schools here in CA; I feel is the propensity to fundraise aal the time and therefore you get to the stage where you wonder what the money is going on because you just don't get the feeling that it is being spent on anything worthwhile.

My family and I are actively looking to leave this state and go to a better school area..We have 2 special needs kids and this is why really. Minnesota looks promising and so does Virginia. Good luck with your move - I LOVE NY..Have relatives in CT and have been there a couple of times
You are right on the money MumofThree! My son got into the Montessori school in Midtown and we took him out after a week! My husband is a teacher and we are shocked at the "teach to the test" mentality. It seems like Sacramento tries but it's allways a second-rate version of what it should be. We can't wait to go! Minnesota is supercool-I spent a lot of time there. People are very real and the twin cities are very happening! I love Brits-they don't beat around the bush and spit out a load of crap and the Midwest is more of that mind, as well. You will find the right place because you know what you want now and we're in the same boat. We're looking at Louisville-great homes for a song, nice people and even though it's small it's happening. Keep me posted

Default Just got back from Sac

OK so everything that everyone says is true...
Not alot going on..Yes,
Cleaverville ..yes...BUT

Its not that bad...it does need some upgrades but it does seem like it is moving in the right direction. We heard from alot of people that there is tons of developement going on besides homes..true?

My wife and I visited Folsom, El Dorado Hills, Rocklin & Roseville.
We liked most of the areas but it seemed Rocklin was the most "up and coming place"...
and if we would of heard "they are building a Tiffany's in the mall" one more time...geeez.
There are alot of builders competeing in the area and it makes finding a nice home a lot easier. We fould a few places we liked by builders such as JMC Homes and Standard Pacific homes. Both companies were very negotiable in their price now we just need to pick one.
Thank you for all your help...

Default Fyi

Uh, I'd stay away from any JMC home. He has recently lost a lot of class action lawsuits against him (John Mourier) brought by disgruntled residents. He's a builder that cuts corners, and does shoddy work, and doesn't stand behind it.

Yes, Rocklin is very nice, you can't go wrong buying there. That's a funny anecdote about Tiffanys going in the mall. Who knows when that will happen? I think they are putting in in the mall expansion, which hasn't really even begun yet.

Yes, Rocklin is ok, look into Whitney Ranch which is their last master-planned development ( off Stanford Ranch rd and then Wild Cat Blvd) - you will benefit from new schools and a park which are going in. Rocklin is very conservative in it's outlook and there are of course many churches to choose from if you are into that kind of thing. You will be close to Roseville which I think is more expensive but has better city programs for the kids and the parks are outstanding IMO.

Default JMC Homes vs. Williams Lyons??

Wow...crazy to hear that JMC has lawsuits against it. I heard that about Lyons homes in El Dorado Hills but have heard nothing but high positive praise for JMC from brokers and owners. I need to look into that more. Thanks!

Folsom is really the way to go IMO. Though El Dorado Hills, Roseville, and Rocklin are nice too.
