That is not the point of that comment.

"God-fearing" is inherent in the equation of being
good citizens.

HOWEVER.. Atheists and Agnostics, as we all can
vouch, MAY have the same endeavor: to obey the
laws of the land. *(at least the LAND before recent
elections, but that is a different post and thread)

My violinist brother is an Atheist.. probably on his
death bed, he will leave this world as an Atheist.
In his life time he has been a good citizen, paid
his taxes, never murdered, cheated or stole.

So, contrary to the inference that apparently
God-fearing always equates with goodness, well....
NO. It doesn't~~~~
because humans are what they are.. good or evil.

In fact, I have seen movies in which 'God-fearing'
fanatics are as evil as they come, with their twisted
outlook on what is biblically sinful.

While you have apparently created a different meaning for God-fearing for yourself, it means deeply religious. It has nothing to do with whether or not you are a good citizen.

Deeply religious people, who are not ranting fanatics,
are 'God-fearing'..

and when one fears God's
judgment,

one endeavors to follow the
scriptures and commandments;

therefore, by virtue of being moral,

one becomes
a good citizen.

You are being facetious, and that is okay
as long as you are aware of the facts ...

The cults, the Catholic Church horror stories,

have no place in this dialogue. The phrase

"God-fearing" means just that..

( I don't believe that you
understand that Christianity is not a cult,
and Christianity is not a 'RELIGION' .. it is
a belief.. belief in things beyond our human
ability to see but which are nonetheless the
TRUTH. But that is for the RELIGION thread
if there is one on here.)

You are delving into a whole other topic
(you might as well have tossed in SATANISM)

all of which has nothing to do with the original
comment that God- fearing people USUALLY
are moral; therefore, they TRY to
follow the mandates as given
in the Bible and by the Lord and by His
Disciples, as given to them from the Lord God.

With that as their belief system, God-fearing people
become good citizens and caretakers of this
Earth.

Simple, isn't it?

PS: Whoever gave me a point in REPUTATION>>>

Merci, beaucoup.

Er.. actually, there was an extremely famous Christian Leader in the 1890's who laid out the definitions of a cult. He said that if any one group meets 5 out of the 9 requirements, it was a cult. The Catholic Church met seven of his requirements. He was actually arguing against the Ku Klux Kaln, and "Communist" cults that were popping up at the time, but his list was useful and used up until the 1980's.

But you missed the actual point by a mile. You said "therefore, by virtue of being moral, one becomes a good citizen," and I posted links to multiple cases of abuse by religious, specifically Church, leaders that blunts the power of your statement.

But, this thread is not the place for a religious debate. I would gladly take this over to the Religion forum, where I'll post you links to both articles I found under "Atheist Child Abuse."

I don't have time for this drivel.

Nor do I EVER discuss what it entails
to be a Christian, (born-again, that is).
It is a concept that many who are
into other philosophies, simply don't grasp.

The core of this thread was about moving to
Salem, the pro's and con's.. and somehow it
drifted into citizenry, then it drifted into what
makes a good citizen of America, and then it
drifted into my assertion that a God-fearing
person is, if sincere and not a crazed fanatic,
a moral person, honoring the laws of
the land, of the road, and of society in general.

Somehow it became a stigma to be God-fearing
because somehow that means you are nutty
and in a cult.

This is not worth any further input on my part
or on any thread you can name.

Now I have to go rescue an animal in distress..
(part of being God-fearing, I betcha)

Over and out..

If that were the case, rural areas would be over-run with their high crime rates. Instead, urban areas have far higher rates of crime. I'll also ask you to compare the test scores in rural and urban areas, despite overall lower incomes in rural areas.

And no, poverty is not caused by a lack of education. It's caused by a lack of internal drive and a long history of poor decision making.

There are plenty of people who never went far in school but did just fine financially, but they had a plan. They work on your heating and air conditioning, plumbing, or cut down your trees. They don't do drugs. They don't get divorced. They don't depend on disability checks. They don't buy cars they can't afford. Perhaps they make things with their own hands.

Look at you, acting as if someone can't even fend for themselves in the world without the "right teachers" huddling around little groups. It's dehumanizing, belittling, and arrogant.
