This is an addendum to my previous message from some years ago: The local newspaper is now much better, even a joy to read. It was acquired by a company that owns many local papers in the area and, while that might not be a good thing, the Woodburn paper itself is no longer crude and offers more political balance without the old cringe-worthy political cartoons or politically one-sided neanderthal editorial opinions or letters.

We are always meeting nice people here. There are some new homes and apartments and the prices seem reasonable when compared to elsewhere.

For reference, we are older than many, but not as old as some; we are educated, retired Navy, Caucasian, very computer literate, social, not flauntingly religious, not anti-gun; drive an SUV, Ford F150, and high-end motorhome; help raise and educate grandchildren, have a couple small rescue puppies, and so forth.

The negatives: The Woodburn Independent newspaper is very Republican. Its editorial cartoons go first after women, especially political women, then after democrat anything and often crudely. Their opinions about local goings-on can be contrary to ours. But, we don't have to read them or live with them, usually.

The local government makes some strange decisions on traffic solutions.

The Woodburn schools are Mexican oriented, then Russian, then other, and education success seems marginal. Breakfast and lunch are provided. There has been another push to build more schools (read raise taxes), but they don't fully use the ones they have now as there are no double shifts or year-round programs. The bond issue got voted down again, but this is not a dead issue in Woodburn.

Home schooling is a very viable option in Oregon and there are lots of resources and few legal hindrances.

All in all, we are happy here, especially when compared to San Diego's rat race neighborhoods and freeways and lack of water.

Honest thoughts? While house hunting I found a property on realtor.com in Woodburn. I never made it to the house. halfway through the drive through Woodburn I saw an ever increasing number of Hispanics and left. Having lived in L.A. I decided it was not going to be a place for me.

Well well . We moved to Woodburn last Sept/2017 and we really like it here . The Tukwilla community where we live is just a gorgeous newly build community that offers more than we thought , from pools to a state of art Golf Course ( a must visit ). Looking out my living room windows I can see the beautiful trees and cosmetically maintained landscape , nice and quiet area + friendly neighbours . Yes there are lots of emigrants here (including myself) , but with all the emigrants here , I can truly say it is a way safer place to live than Portland for instance . We are very happy to be here and I will never move back to the crowded Portland where citizens are driving 30 min bumper to bumper on a 2 mile distance ... no thank you ... (A happy Woodburn resident)

When I was a teenager me and my friends went there a few times to skateboard at the skatepark. I’ve also taken the bus there because I lived in Oregon city and why not? But it’s nice. I wouldn’t move back to Portland. They are going to try and fix the traffic by widening the freeway in West Linn and build a wider bridge, but that will add more cars. It keeps growing.

They did widen the overpass into Woodburn and it was a significant improvement. Traffic flows better off the interstate now.

They did? I haven’t driven on that part of i5 for around four years. I guess the next step is i205 in Oregon city. Bike infrastructure could make Portland a lot better. There should definitely be a bike bridge over the willamette river in clackamas county even if it’s apart of the freeway. If it’s on the freeway then there could be a bike path along i205 from Tualatin to Oregon city.

Oh you said overpass, I thought you said bridge. Wilsonville needs a bigger bridge over the willamatte river too. I remember seeing construction on the road and overpass in Woodburn.
