Will be leaving in a few weeks to Ogden, UT. How would one go about finding some new friends in the area? I am 26, and my wife is 32. We are not Mormon but are really great people to be around. We are coming from NYC and we are a little scared but welcome the change. Any suggestions or comments are welcome.

Be friendly to everyone, & be "Yes Man" accepting any/all invitations!

I hope it's a good move for you. We moved here from MD, but grew up on LI. We're very happy here.

Why would it be different from where you used to live ?

If you did read most of the messages posted here, you must have realised that there is always that *fear*, which in most all cases was entirely unwarranted.

Be yourself, and if it does not work out, please do not blame the neighbourhood ... !

From the way you describe yourselves, I do not see any problems coming at you at all.

It's easy to meet people and make friends in Utah I think. But I also tend to think it's easy to meet people and make friends, I'm very outgoing.

I moved to SLC with my wife at about the same age. One thing I did get, almost immediately was "You're not from here are you?" People picked up on that quickly. Many thought we were from NY as well, which I thought was funny. I'd say "Southern NY" aka "Florida."

Overall, friendly city and easy to make friends.

I'm originally from Utah (now in DC) and I can tell you from a Utahn's perspective that you'll do great if you just be yourselves. It sounds like you are friendly, warm people and that will bode well for you in Utah. You will find a lot of down-to-earth, nice people. Reciprocate, as I'm sure you will, and you'll do great. Makes me miss Utah. DC is not friendly.
It's not a big deal that you're not LDS, you will find that you are among many.

I hope you enjoy it there! If I were you, I'd try to spend a lot of my free time in downtown Salt Lake, I think you and your wife will find some fun things to do there. Not that Ogden isn't a nice place.

Yep - If people were successful making friends elsewhere they'll make friends in Utah.

As I regularly mention here, Utahans are not aliens. Though some of them may seem peculiar (Mark Twain said it, I didn't) they are still just regular people going about their lives.

I'll admit, I felt like a fish out of water when I first moved here from California. But, it wasn't because people weren't friendly - it was simply because things were different.
