Does anyone know who are the tenant in the new shopping center being built at Evans @ Bulverde Rd besides CVS? Are they also building another shopping center next to the bank. When will the Chinese restaurant open?

If you guys think we are behind our development you need to go to Phoenix for a while.

I don't know, when we were in PHX it seemed they were ahead of the game and got the loops (101, 202 and now 303) started before it got really bad. And the roads got done fairly quickly, compared to the 410/281 interchange. The big thing in PHX area is that Tempe wouldn't allow them to broaden US-60 and it becomes a huge bottleneck. But overall, we thought the highway construction was one of the better ones. I lived near SLC during their expansion to prepare for the Olympics and that was a nightmare. Then of course there is LA...

But they just finshed those loops abut twenty years to late.

Btw if you went to the SE valley a lot of the roads are two lane roads and a disaster.

Here's what I'm sick of...

All of this new commercial construction and we keep getting the same ol' crap: Places to get your nails done, Papa Johns, Dry Cleaners, etc. SO BORING.

If we're expanding like a real city, we need to be a little more careful in zoning like a real city. Right now, Stone Oak is turning into one large, faceless strip mall. Isn't this supposed to be an upscale end of SA?

Oy.

What is being built are services in demand. I'm not sure about the Stone Oak area but near La Cantera developers are trying to attract mostly new-to-the-city tenants. Of course, you will see several popular stores put in despite already having numerous locations across the city. For the most part I've seen a lot of new retail enter the San Antonio market around here, and heard of plans for much more. You wouldn't want to build a hookah bar in middle of a retirement community...

BTW Dick's Sporting Goods is now open at The Rim.

Welcome to Texas. What's a "real city"? Los Angeles? I'll pass, thank you.

I don't know but that center is going up fast! As for the Chinese restaurant, we've been wondering that ourselves. Doesn't look like much progress has been made in weeks.

Actually, a real city is Chicago. If you've been there, then you'd know what I'm talking about.

It's not that SA isn't 'real,' but moreso a city that's got the opportunity to open some truly interesting retail, but seems to choose to fill up with junk food and crap.

Oh boy, we're on our way to becoming another Ft Worth! How exciting

I'm not sure what you mean. A lot of the retail going in is new to the state, city, or region. There are no McDonalds or Burger Kings. There are plenty of healthy options going in as far as QSR is concerned.

I'm going to assume you mean the I-10/410 interchange, since the 281/410 interchange has been built in record time. Unless, of course, you're referring to the fact that it wasn't built in the first place. (There's a long story behind that, which I have on my site. DM me if you want the link.)

As for Phoenix, remember that they didn't have much of a freeway system at all until about a decade or so ago, when they passed a sales tax to build themselves an actual freeway network. A dedicated local tax helps to get things done faster than waiting on state or federal resources.
