I tried doing a search on this, but came up with nothing.. Can you send your child to a school other than the one assigned to their address? My grand-daughter will be in K next year, and would be going to Serna on the NE side... I would really like her to go to the Northwood elem. off Harry Wuzbach, which is right near where I live. Do people use relatives' addresses, or do you just request that they go to the other school? Help.

People do use relative's addresses but if they find out, usually because the child mentions where they live by accident, then they will send your child back to the school closer to their area. That could be disruptive for the student if they have to switch schools midterm.

My friend did this to keep her daughter in the middle school she'd been attending. She signed over POA to her sister, who still lives within the boundaries. Good luck!

She did everything on the "up and up" so the child did not have to lie.

It's also dishonest.....if they want to go to that school, they should live there. Not being ugly, but it's the way it's supposed to be.

People do it often. For various reasons. It's not dishonest if the school district is aware and all involved are being truthful. You can even pay "out-of-district tuition" if you want to take it that far. Not everyone fits in to a box.

And sometimes people can't afford to live where the better schools are.

Absolutely. I was discussing those inclined to "get over" on the system - if the school is aware of it and okay's it, then you're right, there's absolutely no issue!
