He's the incumbent so the Republican party doesn't have to nominate another candidate.

He acts just like his hero, W junior.....

He turned down federal funds...(and I won't even mention the 10K/month that he is spending on temporary housing)...

But yes, cuts are coming. Most likely, the first thing that will happen is to lift the 22 pupil limit on class sizes in K-4th grade.

And Texas was the only state to turn down federal funds for education.

Guess we need to hire a Governor who made use of his college time rather than wasting it being a cheerleader when he should have been crackin' the books!

Time for me to make a list of states that make education a priority then find a teaching job there.

Not necessarily. Charter schools are in interesting animal, and they don't function here in SA as profoundly as they do in Dallas, for instance. The success of private school is dependent upon their own resources, i.e. donations, tuition, fundraising and grants. While you would think that many people pull their children from private schools during times of recession, often times enrollment will increase at lower priced schools. During times of recession, people in general become uneasy and wary of their environment. For parents, one of the things that brings them some peace is feeling like they are protecting their children. One of the ways they do that is by enrolling them or keeping them in private school. Our school has seen a 20% increase in enrollment since last school year, and as of right now our projected enrollment for next school year is higher than the current school year.

If you are interested in working in a private school, 1. make sure your core values align with those of that particular school and 2. submit your resume, letter of interest and the school's application at any time. Private schools have a much smaller applicant pool to choose from, and when the need to fill a spot arises the school is forced to take quick action and go to its small pool of applicants.

Aren't donations affected by the economy? Almost everything I'm pulling up shows that private schools are seeing a decline in enrollment during the recession. Of course, there are a few pockets here and there that have seen an increase like in certain parts of New York state and Georgia. But overall, private schools have seen a decline. I'm sure, though, that employment chances are probably much better amongst private schools than public schools planning layoffs.
