How about Joel Osteen? I agree that it's very interesting why he would need a million dollars, but Hagee's church has turned me around and got me into a path with Christ that I've never had before. The problem I see with some of these smaller churches is that they also push the money collection just as much, if not more. The last ones I attended (helotes) had visiting priests asking for help for their own churches down the street, etc. IT then became a deal about raffling off a white pickup truck and a spiel about more fundraisers down the line. I feel bad for these guys, I know it's tough, but sometimes I'd like to hear a sermon every now and then without worrying about whether the next sermon will be unavailable because of lack of funds.

As for Cornerstone, I don't hold Hagee's status any higher than the people sitting next to me--he just helps bring the message of Christ and keeps me focused on my faith. At the end of the day, I pray in my own room and build my faith through Scripture. Hagee's message is just extra help along the way to keep me going. Ever since I've gone, I've been blessed in so many ways, it has gotten scary.

Joel Osteen is off the radar - so no one knows how much he makes - but as of the most recent reporting Hagee was pulling in the most. There is no reason why a pastor needs to take that much money. And it is more concerning that after the most recent investigation he made changes to hide his income. That should be a red flag for anyone.

Before you start complaining about how much someone makes, look at how much they out in to the community. They spend many times more than that on helping others and they do an incredible amount of good. Plus he's an entrepreneur as well. He writes and sells many books.

If this was like Iraq, where Saddam had 7 palaces, yet kept the people poor, it'd be different. But he's earning every bit of that money and not taking it out of peoples' pockets.

What's the magic number that someone's making too much money? There's nothing saying you can't go out and make that much. That's what's great about this country.

He's doing good work and he's making good money as well. He could easily take more money for his salary and not hurt the Church.

The salary figures that have been reported don't include book royalties. I was just talking salary from GETV and Cornerstone. If he has nothing to be ashamed of, why has he recently gone to great lengths to keep it a secret. All other major non profits readily report what they pay their leader. If you honestly think that John Haggee is out in the community helping people you are really clueless. He lives in the dominion and is only seen in public on his court side spurs seats and at expensive restaurants and other ritzy places. I saw him once at a restaurant he had "people" handling the crowd for his family like he was some kind of world leader. It was really a joke. Funny thing is that there wasn't much of a crowd.

The head in the sand mentality isn't good for anyone. And all I did was shine the light on the truth. I guess I am old fashion when I believe that the pastor of a church ought to live in a way that mirrors what the Bible teaches. The Bible says the love of money is the root of all evil. The fact that a man would have his entire family on the payroll of an organization that sends well over a million into his pockets and then take steps to hide that from their congregation and the public shows he is more interested in his money instead of being accountable and up front. Church is more than making people feeling good. The ultimate goal is that those people would learn what the Bible says and start living out the life Christ has taught. I guess I am in the minority that thinks that if God says the love of money is the root of all evil - that the pastor and public example of Christian living - ought to follow what the Bible says.

But then - people don't have a problem that John Hagee is married to the woman he had an affair with while married to his first wife. John Hagee has problems that feel good sermons can't erase.

And His grace is sufficient! I tithe as instructed. That's my responsibility as a Christian. I am not accountable for what a board does with it. God help them if they misappropriate! I really don't want to banter back and forth about my Pastor or any other chuch leader.

James 3:1
Pastors who mislead others will be
judged more harshly by God.

'Nuff said.

I understand what you're saying Banker, but I also think that these pastors may also believe that they have been rightfully rewarded as said in the Bible.

It takes money to run a church I believe that you give because God says to give you have to have faitih and know that you are giving for the right reasons and not wonder and debate on what is happening to all the money know that God knows and will take care of the rest. We should also be careful on what we say concerning a servant of God we should just be prayerful.
