NOT disagreeing with you, but in the last couple of years we have become friends (through our kids) with two families that came from Berkeley. I always found that interesting, as our circle of friends is not huge.

I have NO facts to back this up, but it just seems that Austin is becoming more conservative... and SA the opposite. Maybe it's just the part of SA I hang around.

Just got this article in an email from the Military Officer's Association of America, the nation's largest and most influential association of military officers...

10 Factors to Determine Your Salary After the Military

Thought this first one was applicable since the topic of the economy, salaries, etc. has been brought up in this thread...

Quote:
Where you move. You know there are high cost and low cost areas of the country. Using salary.com, you can figure the cost of living differences between two locations. For example, the Washington DC area has a cost of living 41% higher than San Antonio, Texas and pays wages 15% higher than San Antonio. So you’ll earn a bit less in San Antonio but live at a higher standard of living.
The rest of the article has good info, but I only wanted to highlight this one critical portion since a few always like to attack the average lower salaries offered in this area.

Cheers! M2

We belong to and get MOAA stuff, too, but that doesn't change a thing as far as the state of our housing market.

I say this in general, if you want to have a say with the city, LIVE in the city.

So just more facts that you're conveniently ignoring, eh?

By the way, the source of that information--salary.com--is not affiliated with MOAA.

What am I ignoring?

I don't need to see your articles because across MY DESK every, single day I SEE:
Listing prices
Sale prices
Listing days (including homes that go on, off, and back on the market)
Salaries (I have a pretty good idea of the averages here and in what fields)
Credit reports
Closing costs (including what builder incentives and what pre-existing sellers are having to throw down)
Foreclosures
Short-sales
You can blame easy lending for what is wrong NOW with housing; I am thankful I was not part of it at our last state, but I do see the wake it has left. I'm sure you are an expert at YOUR job and I'm quite capable of sharing what I see in mine. No where else on CD can I find such hostile repsonses to housing. It's a mess ALL over, trust me, we are FAR from this being over.

I realize you need to sell homes; and I love to approve loans for them to be bought, but I am glad I am able to reveal another side of this housing market. I am very sorry if some on here think SA was/is immune to problems because it's not, but I don't think we need to discuss it any longer because folks have moved on to other topics on this thread. I wish you great luck in real estate! I wish it for all of us.
