19 states don't require front license plates. Guess it's not that important to them. I'm going to work to get the law changed.

Then, I guess that means Texas is one of 31 States that do require a front plate. Good luck getting the law changed, as it has been tried several times over the years, but all the measures have failed in the legislature.

But I agree, working through your elected representatives is the way proper way to go to get laws you disagree with changed.

I am not sure if it is true or not but I was told the front plates helps the police with obtaining speed on certain cars. The design of certain cars can make it difficult to obtain the speed and the plate as a reflective piece of metal in the front helps the police obtain the speed.

Hey Lola, I appreciate the PSA but maybe you should have taken the opportunity to inform the masses that you broke the law by not displaying a license plate on the front of your vehicle and will now be held accountable for your actions instead of using this forum to bash the police officer who did his or her job. A law is a law, simple as that. It's true that some need to be removed from the books but until they are, all are enforceable by law enforcement officials. And since you gave your personal opinion, I feel just fine giving mine...please keep you snarky comments to yourself, they make you look petty.
Be safe out there everyone and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Does that mean another effort should not be made? No. Many laws take multiple efforts to be changed. Thanks for wishing me luck.
Yes, TX is one of 31 states that do require it. I would like to find out why some states do...and some don't.
I will go through my elected representatives in an effort to have the law changed.

Lots of TX trucks have unreadable rear plates. Blocked by stuff (legal stuff like bike racks) or severely damaged by rough trailer hook ups.

The fourth amendment is pretty much ignored now days. Especially for searching the homes and cars of little people who have front license plate issues or something else minor.

Search for 'good faith exception to the fourth amendment'.

That exception applies to the cops who interact with you and even to the appeals court that rules against a claim of protection afforded by the fourth that was recognized by a lower court.

That is also against the law and those people can and do get pulled over as well.

I've been in Texas since 1978 and cars just look wrong without a front plate now. I've never understood all the rebellion against it, and frankly, I'm glad it's a primary offense now. Is it stupid? Yeah probably... but rules is rules.

I agree 100%. It's a silly law but it is the law so we gotta follow it at least until the law changes
