The Manhattan on Houston St.
Original Paesanos Restaurant on McCullough St.
Christie's Seafood on Broadway St.

Also not what you would call a restaurant but New York Style Pizza.
originally located downtown on Houston St. near the Majestic Theater.
Last pizza this good was in Chicago & New York.

20 years ago or so...maybe a little more? There was a small chain of steakhouses that were pretty good. Nothing fancy, just a step or two above a Sizzler but we could take our son and not be a nuisance and still have a decent meal. There was one at Bandera and 410 and another up near Broadway and 410 ( in that area ) and I believe a couple more elsewhere. I want to say it started with an F but I've slept way too many times since then to be sure.

Another fun spot for lunch was in Ingram Square. ...called People's I think. All the tables had human looking legs if I remember correctly. Again this was probably 20 years ago.

Tin Bucket Cafe was in that same area, too.

John Ls on Nogalitos for lunch or for his PM banquet. The banquet you had to have reservations and he cooked for your party only. You went home with as much fresh made Chinese food as you ate. The absolute best in Texas. The Spanish Gallion on San Pedro. Youngbloods on the southside across from Sears. They had the best Fried Chicken in town. Italian Gardens on W W White Rd at Loop13. They were only open at night and was a small place. The gal fresh cooked all of the Italian food and it was magnificent. Naples on Broadway was pretty decent too. Christis Seafood on Broadway was known for their Romalade salad dressing. My grand mother knew the owners and had the recipe for it. All I remember about it is mayo, catchup, brown sugar, and several other goodies to make it. It was pretty good as us kids liked eating the salads....and we never ate salads at home even at gun point.
