The Colonies North Pool used to have the 3 meter diving board too...that and AH are some of the few pools that had a diving board that high. Those are all but gone, because they are basically not insurable.
High Diving boards....yet another thing GBNF in SA!

Target opened their first stores in San Antonio in February 1983, not 1982. I was a cashier at the Bandera-410 store when they had their "soft" opening on either 2-7-83 or 2-14-83, then the "grand" opening a week later. I worked there part-time almost 4 years while I was in college. I'm pretty sure that the other locations that opened in '83 were Marbach, Vance Jackson, Bitters, SW Military, and Walzem.

We would go to Alamo Heights pool as kids, mid-60s. I was always afraid of the diving boards because we were told of a guy who died when he tried to jump to the other pool far away, they said his legs went up into his body ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, dont know if its true or not-maybe it was the older kids trying to scare us, but I always think of that story when I hear of that pool.

I think the only store at Crossroads now that was there in the beginning-or at least near the beginning- is the Radio Shack Store. I remember it as the place to buy a Transistor Radio. They had a large assortment starting at around three dollars for a two transistor radio, all the way up to eight or nine dollars for an eight transistor radio. The more transistors the better the radio and some had leather cases. Radio Shack also had a battery of the month club. They would give you a card and they would let you have a free battery every month and would punch the card.

Good post makes you wonder what stores are left from the early days of Ingram, North Star, and Southpark mall. Anyone????

Waldenbooks has been at Ingram as long as I can remember.

I think one of the hair salons at the end of North Star Mall has been there a while, possibly.

Luby's.

I'm sure this has been brought up, but I'm only halfway through the thread, what a great read! Wasn't KTSA (back when they used to play music) supposed to be the first am stereo station? And I seem to rememeber one of the dj's used to play an audio clip that said, "Big Bad Momma, Big Bad Momma". Anyone else remember this??
