Ok I have seen pictures of a beer hall on south New Braunfels just past Fort Sam Houston. I don't know if this is what you are thinking of..I think it has been gone a long time..It still might be there..I dunno

“Nostalgia helps us to keep our dreams in perspective”

quote David Vaughn editor of a gold investment publication.

WW 2 bombers (1957)– north side of San Antonio municipal airport (I do not think it was international yet) . We would walk from Hillcrest area all the way to the airport to play in the bombers and “take souvenirs”.

Austin Highway Oval racetrack (1957)(acutal name I don’t remember) – Austin Highway and Harry Wurzbach area.- One of the crowds favorite driver was a guy named Buddy Yantis.

Midway Tourist Courts –Fredericksburg Rd. just south of Babcock Rd. Attached to the old Sigmore service station. About a dozen rooms in a row angled back from highway.
My guess they were built in the 20’s or 30’s.
I was 16 (1959) and decided to surprise my girlfriend. I rented a room for $2.00 plus tax. The service station attendant rented the rooms. I was given a skeleton key for the room door (that tells how old the structure was). We walked in and she said something about bed bugs and we left. It was a roachbait motel. We went to the Fred Rd. drive-in and watched a movie.

Mammy’s Cafeteria – Fredericksburg rd. near Zarzamora,
I took my first ever dinner date to Mammie’s on a Sunday with my family in 1957, when I was 14. The owners son (family friend) kept the black Mammie’s bell dolls that you rang for help from the push cart servers. I would say they are priceless.

Live Oak & Mesquite tree Picnic Area (1975) – west side of 281 south of Bitters. Picnic tables and large number of oak trees. Destroyed by developer of I think Builders Square. Before tree cutting ban.

Really enjoy reading this post. I was born in 1970, so lots of these places I'm not familiar with, but great to hear about. I actually grew up in a small town in south Texas, (Port Lavaca) and they used to have stores called Gibson's, Bottom Dollar, and TG & Y. Did they have those stores here? And I'm a pretty big comic book collector, and I remember the only place to get some back issues were at the flea markets. Does anyone know what or where the first comic book stores were here in SA? Thanks!

I just read on the channel four web site about Fiesta events at Fort Sam Houston for 117 years! I have lived here all my life and I don't remember ever going there unless I am confusing it with the forth of July fireworks displays..
