Plus, there is a new BBQ place opening soon across the street!

Another new place across the street is CAZADORES Mexican, I stopped in for tacos today. They were good sized, tortillas were thin and fresh, eggs were fluffy and moist. They have a 3 of a kind special for 2.50!

The lunch/dinner menu has all the standard stuff, plus many seafood items inckluding plates and cocktails. I don't know if they are always availible, but more unusal offerings included lobster, octopus, gar and sheephead!

The place is roomy and looks very nice. I'm sure I will be trying more items here
Taco Kitchen is still open there?

Has anyone tried Conger Smoke Shack, at the site of the (used to be) Texaco station at Nacogdoches & Loop 410? It has a NOW OPEN banner out, as well as a BEST PULLED PORK sign. It smelled good when I just went by, but I had already eaten.

I heard that last night they were having free beer and from the way I was told, they were open. Not sure if it was their "soft" opening or what. I should have gone over, but didn't get a chance to.

Well, me and wife went tonight and it's good but we still like chipotle better. It was pretty busy of course.

I went to the soft opening of The Monterey last night and I expect great things from this kitchen in the future. All I can say is finally a restaurant gets it right in this chain-food, play it safe, tex-mex town. Plates run 7-14 and were designed to be shared. Think Casa Mono in NYC or Holman & Finch in ATL.

Pig head & slaw showed promise (it reminded me of a recent dish at 1 of ATL's better spots). Grilled cheese w/ "white bacon" was quite tasty. A mushroom salad with a deep fried egg showed great promise. Shrimp & chorizo remoulade showed skill and great flavor. A cauliflower dish was nearly perfect. The menu was an Oasis in the culinary backwaters. The kitchen had the normal kinks for a new restaurant, but when they get their footing this place will be SA's foodie destination.

Did I mention the decor? Everything from the car outside, the patio, plantings, art, etc invited us in and made us want to linger and enjoy a wonderful Fall night under the stars. Bravo.

They are located @ 1127 South Saint Mary's St.
