I need suggestions on good places to live. My husband will be working on the south side at 35 and 410. We want the best public schools for our kids, one starting kindergarten this fall. We are lookinig to spend $250,000 to $300,000 on a home. My husband does not want a long commute, less than 45 minutes. He will be driving early in the morning, around 6 am and later in the day after 6 pm. What are the best places to live with excellent schools, and newer homes?

Thanks,

MB

Welcome to San Antonio Michele164!

You can find some nice homes in the far West side outside Loop 1604. Try Alamo Ranch on the west side of Loop 1604 and Culebra. You can also check out Belle Vista outside Loop 1604 on Potranco. Both places offer different builders, though Alamo Ranch also has many gated communities. They are in the Northside ISD (NISD), that has good schools. Your husband could go down Loop 1604 to Hwy 90, head East to Loop 410 exit and head South to I-35 and 410. It would be about a 25 minute drive.

Good luck in your search.

NOT stone oak. You can barely get to Stone Oak to downtown in an hour, Stone Oak to the south side would be commuter suicide. Not to mention that almost all the schools are capped in Stone Oak so her child would have to be bussed to an out of neighborhood school.

Under all circumstances, I would choose Stone Oak as my home.

I absolutely love that place.

I’d have to think everyone here already knows that November. There isn’t a “where to live in SA” thread that doesn’t have your Stone Oak submission. I really didn’t think much of it until this time. This woman is saying her husband will be working in the 410 and 35 area on the south side and you offer Stone Oak. Do you know how little that makes sense not only economically (gas) but logistically?

If the career is in the 410/35 area in southwest SA, then I’d suggest some of the newer subdivisions being built in that area. My personal suggestion would be Hunter’s Pond. Where 131,000 can get you a home like this -

Perhaps she would like to look at the crime rates of the areas on the south side before she makes her decision.

I would like to see some of the numbers for crime in South SA compared to North SA.

The OP didn't ask for crime statistics, and no one should have to provide them for you.

She also mentioned they want to spend 250-350K for their home.

I would recommend Schertz or Cibolo.

Just a strait shot down 35 for the commute.

I think when a person is moving into a new city they would appreciate all the help they can get, including crime rates as I am sure they do not want to spend 250-350k on a house in an area that has lots of crime and where they would feel uncomfortable.

I think it should be a given from now on to include crime, school, and racial make up to any person looking to move to SA so they can get a real idea of what they are getting into.
