This Day in San Antonio's History
May 18, 1885
Ground is broken for the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railroad located at the corner of S. Alamo and S. Flores.
The San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railroad is first organized in 1884 and the Depot didn't open until 1886.
One of the RR stations we've lost but not forgotten.

At the corner of Durango & South Flores Street was the old
MKT depot. I remember taking a picture of the station.

The facade of old mission was very appealing. I have the photo
somewhere...If I locate it, I'll post it here.
The depot was demolished in 1970.

I used to walk on that lot/field back in the early 1960s on my way home from school. I lived towards the old Highland Park State Bank on Highland

We used to call that huge field, KITE FIELD.......there was a man who lived on the east side of the field, I think on Chicago, that built a small village of houses , and a few shops, it was a minature town , had traffic lights and small streets........

Woolco built on that field probably in the late 60s, or early 70s........I used to shop at Woolco and then it finally closed in the late 70s or so and now is home depot.....I lived in that area from 1955 to the 1980s.....Kite field was where everyone played ball and flew kites, which is now Home Depot.......

Default That is,

One heck of a pool table. I would hate to have to move it and level it.

not at my place Flash. I wouldn't mind having that one though.

if I had room.

it's at a residence where I delivered four Lynn Ford beaten lead planters that I restored.

I rescued the planters from a dump site about 20 years ago.

Default Oh Yea, sure Mud,

Surely, it is a beauty of a pool table alright , I am an definite afficianado of the pool game. It is a game of angles and velocity and spin.
However as much as I like the quality of that pool table and its' fit and finish and construction, history
etc. from the looks of it, it must weigh 400 lbs.
Even more than moving and leveling that fine piece, I would hate to pay for it- it must be worth a lot of money. Of course for the right price I would do all of the above, yes.

Fine job on the restoration of the planters by the way, that lead stuff is pretty toxic though, careful. Hard to believe really. That work must be like auto bodywork? Heat and straighten? Looks great with the Agave plant in it, plus, good for making tequila in a pinch too. Where is the location those are displayed at?
I see a City of San Antonio plaque in the background there.
