and I guess the SA market consists of the majority of people liking Old School stuff right?? I mean, okay. have that station but also have a station like the way 94.1 is right now so that everyone's happy. To me this is refreshing and a nice change from what we're use to getting in this market. Never had a station like this before or at least in a long while or an alternative rock format like 101X in austin........that's the next thing we need.

I really like the new music they're playing. You can't hear some of that stuff on mix 96.1 or 101.9 or magic 105.3. We need a good alternative rock and/or indie music kind of station. I did like the old school r&b and free style music they used to play but after a while that gets kinda old. I still don't understand why we need 2 hip hop and rap stations. We have a ton of country stations too that I never listen to at all. Don't they all pretty much play the same stuff.

Uhhh No...Every market is different. San Antonio tends to lean more Rhythmic because of the large Hispanic population. As for 94.1, it's sounds like a station from the Midwest. This station might do better in the coming months but not much. It's out of touch with the majority of the market.

For the first time in many years, KONO-Oldies was able to knock off The Beat for the top rated radio station in SA. Previously, The Beat dominated this market.

The Alternative format is doing horrible across the county. Don't look for that format to enter this market anytime soon.
Take a look where 101x(KROX) is ranked-

Houston and other major cities have an 80s-only station. That would be cool to have here! Though they have to play more than 17 songs...

In Portland Maine, they have THE BEST alternative rock station around - WCYY. I can't say enough good things about them. They play NEW rock, god forbid! Unlike KISS that won't play anything until it's been exhausted by every other station in the country!

The best thing about WCYY was they really really REALLY care about local bands. They'd always highlight new local artists and songs. They went out of their way to introduce listeners to up-and-coming local and national artists.

If you listen to the local stations here you wouldn't think San Antonio had ANY local bands/musicians!!

I have case after case of CDs that my wife has never heard of because the local SA stations never played them!

On another note, how hard is it to take the top 50 or 100 songs from the past 15-20 years and play them?? I'm tired of hearing the same 17 songs on every station! I'm really impressed when two stations are playing the same song at the same time. With the amount of great music out there you'd think the odds of that happening would be astronomical, yet it seems to happen almost weekly on my drive to/from work!!

I really hate the new format, last year I wrote to the programming director expressing my distaste for the format change. Was surprised that he actually wrote be back.. Looking back at his email and the falling ratings since that time makes we wonder if his explanation was sound.

I may just post his email here..

I am disappointed. I hope another station is created that played the original 94.1 style!

Exactly!! I mean, I've heard Howie Day "Collide" on this station and that's something that's never been played on any S.A dial before. And they're playing newer Hot AC music, unlike magic where they wait till it's been played out by 96.1 or other stations. I pray it lasts.

Two hip hop / rap stations that play THE EXACT SAME SONGS!! I can handle two stations if they cater to different listeners.. but these guys just seem to have the same 17 songs that they take turns playing .

I really like the Jack & 97.7 formats. Less talk, more rock. Who are the listeners who really enjoy 5+ hours of talk in the morning? Honestly, if that's your bag, cool. But why? What is it that's so appealing that the majority of the stations have these clowns? In the morning, or afternoon, I like to hear some news, some weather, some sports, and some traffic.. but mostly I want to hear music! I have yet to meet someone who says "OMG, I have to go to work this morning because I have to hear what DJ Dum-arse has to say about American Idol last night!"
