There's more to the code than what I posted, but to be honest I would never advocate going onto what is clearly private property without the expressed consent of the owner!

Texas law greatly favors the property owner in most cases...

Quote:
§9.41. Protection of one's own property.
(a) A person in lawful possession of land or tangible, movable property is justified in using force against another when and to the degree the actor reasonably believes the force is immediately necessary to prevent or terminate the other's trespass on the land or unlawful interference with the property.
And it is just good common sense...the problem is, sometimes common sense isn't that common!

Cheers! M2

I think I know the house your talking about. You go Higgins past Wetmore Cemetery and then turned to the left at the stop sign. Might drive past there for the heck of it.If it is a church or church run property, put up a sign. Most of them do.The Spiritian Fathers used to have a place on IH35 North at Hubertus Road on the access road. They had a sign Spiritan Retreat center, but they have sold the land, so the sign is gone. This deal with these people claiming the house as a church is a tax dodge.

There has been a public hearing for possible demolition of the house located on this property due to possible public nuisance and/or unsafe structure. The hearing took place on June 28, 2010. I wonder if this house will be torn down? Anyone know the results of this hearing?

Ive been driving by this house a lot lately, I would love to take some pics of this place. I thought Id check on here first, I knew there would be a post about it. I looked at it on Historic Arials and the house isnt even there in 1986, so Im guessing it was built in 1993. Why would someone build a house with a third story "ballroom" in the 90's? After reading that post about the woman with the gun, I gueeeeeeeess Ill take some pics from the srteet......I wanna see the inside. LOL.

I drive by this property several times a week to/from dog training classes and tonight on my way home - I noticed it was being demolished - the second story is 1/2 gone - with the other half exposed....the entire 2nd story roof is gone as of tonight.....there were several people walking along the fenceline trying to get a better look tonight...this mysterious property will likely be reduced to a pile of debris by tomorrow.

GREAT pics RGJ!!!

I called code compliance this morning to see if the city was doing this work, or if the owner finally complied. The person I spoke with advised the city did issue a 90 day demolition order to the owner on June 28, 2010 - the city rep said the owner or representative is doing the demolition - not the city, as they would not have started the work, until the 90 day order expired with no action from the property owner.
