That was back in the 1970s or whatever. I'm talking about now.

It's a literal ghost town.

Population: 01 at last Census.

Correct. There's nothing there except lizards.

Ooooh, scary! It's just a place that the Interstate took business away from, like so many small towns.

Needles...old railroad town, broke down as h--- since the railroad left. Named Needles for the rock formations near the Colorado River. It is where one of the best excerpts of the novel, The Grapes of Wrath, occurred. Did you ever read it? You should.

Some of the most beautiful parts of the Mojave Desert are the Mojave National Preserve...that triangle-shaped area between I-15 & I-40...go explore it...and respect it!

Now...you're from Indio, right? I never went there, had a friend from there. Start talking.
Yep, born and raised here in Indio! And start talking about what?

All about Indio, of course.

No, I'm NOT trying to find a place to live. I've been through (and stopped at) some of the areas maybe... Once or twice? I have somewhat of an interest in these areas mentioned.

Any answers are appreciated. Thank you in advance!
Barstow: My experience is surprisingly limited. I remember when they finished the I-15/CA-91 interchange in Corona (was a huge deal at the time), the new I-15 North had Barstow as the control city. My mother always promised me she'd take me there some day, but she never did. Anyhow, I've always been meaning to go eat at the first Del Taco, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Don't know if I've even ever stopped there for any reason (but I've driven through plenty of times). Looks like a Mexican Ridgecrest IMO.

Daggett: The Weather Channel used to have its Barstow station there. That's all I know.

Hinkley: Erin Brockovich. A smattering of poor, no different than Boron or North Edwards I'd imagine.

Yermo: I once knew a girl from there. Big rack, but very Christian.

Fort Irwin: I try and stay away from military bases.

Newberry Springs: I once stopped at a general sort of store there, it had overly expensive items that may have been on the rack for too long. It was the only store in town from what the gentleman behind the counter said (was en route to Lake Burn-Your-Mental-Health-Offasu).

Baker: Tons of traffic. Very expensive gas. Kind of an interesting setting with that big hill you go up just east of there.

Now, how does the quality of life, crime rate, income, etc. in Barstow, Daggett, Lenwood, Yermo, Hinkley, Fort Irwin, Newberry Springs, Baker, Trona, and Needles compare to other various areas in SoCal?
