Indio's claims to fame are the Date Festival, and the 330-acre Empire Polo Club where Coachella Fest is held (because it doesn't take place in the city of Coachella). The malls aren't worth mentioning (and one of them is a mausoleum, anyway).

You can call it that, too. Dead, mausoleum, crypt, tomb, etc.

Art in motion in Barstow is some screwball staggering on Main Street falling in his/her own vomit/ urine/feces etc. Or the Oooglies wandering into traffic, blocking the streets. The slow motion movements and dragging of the feet, all while giving you the good ol' Barstow Stare is pure magic.

However, the verbal arts are even better. The whackos screaming at the top of their lungs in front of the businesses in town OR the interrogation like "small talk" from the local yokel crowd if you happen to work at one of these businesses. It is amazing to witness such interaction let alone be on the receiving end of the strangest, most intrusive, conversation with a stranger, you ever had. (Unless you have ever been questioned for high crimes or treason) Then you create your own art in motion, dodging and not answering their questions in the nicest, most cordial way. Which always pisses them off. ha HA!

If the sand is moving, that means the wind is blowing, which means Barstow is even more awful than on a wonderful, clear, warm day. The art lies not in the blowing sand.....but in the fortitude to not purposely take a swan dive off the 1st street bridge every time you cross it.
