You might want to consider renting for a while after you get here in order to find a neighborhood to your liking. One thing I would strongly recommend is looking for either a home that has its' own pool or better yet, a neighborhood that has a gated community pool. The heat can be fairly intense for about 3 or 4 months and a pool allows you to spend more time outside. Your kids will really appreciate it.

Does anyone (who likes Temecula/Murrieta area that is) know of any neighborhoods that offer some walkability to eateries or a coffeehouse as well as playgrounds?
Temecula's Meadow View is closest to the mall and restaurants. It's within a short walking distance.

I could say Redhawk is walk-able to the restaurants at Pechanga (its 1 mile for me) but some parts of redhawk would be 4 miles or more. There are strip malls all over with lots of restaurants, If you are looking for multiple options of restaurants I would suggest living near Old town or the mall
4 mike long neighborhoods? I was afraid of the developments being too spread out. That means even if a playground is in the development it may not be walkable I assume.

In Murrieta you will never be very far from a park. If you are worried about being close to a park, you just buy a house that is near one. There are parks all over.

We have lived all over the country in some pretty awesome places but this is our favorite place which is why we live here.

If I had to deal with the commute traffic then I definitely would not live here as I hate commuting. However, I don't have to deal with it and neither will you.

Its not just 1 park for all of redhawks 3,000 homes. There are many, large, small, open spaces. seems every place you turn on Temecula there are parks.

We'll be renting first. I'll scope out Murrieta and see how the two compare. Ideally just want to find a nice place that is walkable to a playground and a coffee house (and a bite to eat if possible).

It is not a matter of comparing the 2 cities. In reality they are really one city. Both are great places to live. It is a matter of finding the home and neighborhood you like regardless of whether it is in Murrieta or Temecula.

You mentioned living all over country. Have you ever been to Colorado? And if so how would you compare.

Temecula is nice but I can't think of a worst newer built city. Only one major exit? It must take 15+ minutes to get off Temecula Parkway. It adds a few minutes when I drive thru on my home to SD.

Yes I know about the traffic. Lucky for us there will be no job commuting.
