We are considering Corona, after scouring Irvine for a place to live. Can anyone tell me if it's a good place for a young family? And how is the commute to Santa Ana?

First question: Yes.

Second question: Terrible.

i spent the second half of my childhood growing up in corona in the 90s. the schools were good (not great) when i was there and it was a pretty family friendly area with a good mix of people (ie money and skin color). i go back on occasion as my family still lives there and it doesn't appear to have changed too much. the real estate meltdown took a huge toll on the city, but it seems to have rebounded pretty well at this point. HOWEVER (note the caps), the drive to santa ana will be miserable!!!!!!!! you're looking at 1-1.5 hours each way everyday unless you work off hours (ie 6-3) or you're willing to dish out for the toll lanes (which are only necessary for the pm commute). many, many people make this commute to afford newer/larger homes for their families in riverside county, but i personally don't think that it's worth it. i would definitely try it out one time and see if you think you could handle it every day both ways.

Corona is nice but the traffic is horrible on both the 15 and the 91 almost all the time.

Corona to Santa Ana would be torture by car.

Metrolink... not so much.

IMO Corona is a great place to raise a family. I was born and raised in Norco, just down the 15, but went to school and played sports all in Corona. Great parks and facilities and some great schools to choose from, like Corona Fundamental Intermediate and Santiago. The Commute though would be horrendous.

Thanks, everyone for your feed back. One last question: Are there many African Americans living in Corona?

LOL. My buddy just moved there. He told me there are hardly any blacks in Corona. About 50/50 Whites and Hispanics.

I haven't really been to Corona in the last 5 years until last month...its not as bad as I thought. Though, the 91 freeway is a joke. Reminds me of the 22 and 710 on the crappest idiotic freeway designs.
