I like this...

There is a nice place in San Diego, classic California architecture in the old buildings, handy to the airport. Room and board is free, plus- free medical care (socialist I guess). Free clothing, and you get a monthly pay check.

It's called the Marine Corps Recruit Depot.

I highly recommend it!

Good luck!
except he isn't a college student or won't be this year. That is a big difference, he has some cash, do you have any idea what "some cash" means. I have some as well, in my wallet right now. It is about $10.00.

Did you read his other post, he doesn't know where he lives now so doesn't sound like he is all there wherever "there" is...

Yes, just some kid having fun on the computer or a TROLL..and we are feeding him...Well I am not going to anymore.

In the first post he said he has enough cash for several months rent.

As for whether he's in college or not - who cares? The fact that there are three universities in the area means that there are lots of kids looking for roommates right now - and believe me, they won't care if he's enrolled in school - as long as he's the right age and can pay his share of the rent.

If you're twenty, have enough cash for three months rent, and are looking for roommates, San Diego can be a magical place. I bet he has a great time here! And if he's broke at the end of the three months, so what? He can always go back home, and at least he had a fun summer!

First of all he said a "few months" which to me isn't a lot of cash, he doesn't have any idea what the cost of living is and more than that, the guy isn't for real. Obviously you didn't read his other post or you would give it up for heavens sake...Think about it, first his sign on name suggests he is in college, but obviously he is not, then he says he is coming to Ca on such and such a date from Tuscon, and then another post says he is moving to NYC from Texas. May I add one more thing, whether you agree or disagree, this is an open forum and we all have a right to our opinions. He asked, some of us say one thing, someone another, but that doesn't make you right and me wrong.

My guess, most of the kids that come on these boards never make the move, most really don't even plan to I don't think. The ones that do, often do come back and report. Some have great luck which is what we all hope, others admit, it isn't what they had hoped.

well either way, we are doing nothing but wasting time on him. You are probably closer to right, whatever he is, moving to San Diego isn't in his plans I bet, what do you think?

Of course! That's the beauty of a forum and I'm all for it! That's why I'm here.

I expressed an opinion, and I never once said I was right or that you were wrong. In fact, I don't think you're wrong - I even agree with some of what you've said.

I agree. It's healthy to dream, and plan, and explore. So what if the guy plans to move to NYC one day and San Diego the next? He's young, he's exploring, and this forum is a free place to do that - so good for him! And maybe, just maybe, he'll actually make it out to San Diego this summer and have a great time. You never know!

I currently have a part time job selling on ebay and have few months of rent money. Is it pretty easy to rent a room in san diego without I guess a real job? I'm 20 by the way so I can live cheaply. I'm just afraid I will have to live in my car.
Anything is possible and maybe it would work out but the risk is to great.
Im afraid you would end up living in your car. In fact Im almost sure that is what will happen. I think the days of a cheap room are gone. I think people pay $150 or more a week now in someone's home in a place like SD. I would plan this out more and my advice is this. Remember your car could break down and would you have funds to fix it or top of living expenses.

Delay the move. And do one of two things. Take a trip to SD with only the intent of finding a job, so that you don't spend all your money moving there. If you find a job good you can move there, if your don't get back to Tucson.
Or get a job in Tucson at Home Depot, or Lowes, Best Buy something like that. Any number of places. With a job in companies such as that you could transfer to SD. It would be a much safer and more practical way to make the move. If you dont you will spend all the money that you saved in SD, maybe not find a job and have to come right back to Tucson. It would be better to do as I recommended.

In this day and age a person cannot be without a job. There is no way around it. SD is very expensive and always has been. It would eat up your limited funds in less than a month and you could end up sleeping in your car.
