Campos Mexican Grill, a hole in the wall off the I-8 and mollison, by far the best tacos Ive ever had. They have a special, 2 chicken tacos and a drink for 2.99. add 50 cents more to get extra taco. thats 3.49 for 3 tacos and a drink.

i know it is not good to revive threads, but who does not want to know about tacos??
While I travel for chow, everyone needs an acceptable neighborhood (near home, work) shop. Mine is Los Reyes in Golden Hill. Friday routine is glass of wine at Counterpoint (love them!) and carry out from Los Reyes. I have some dietary peculiarities-no gluten and they work with me. I can get meat by the pound with lots of side veggies. Very authentic too-lengua in mole, cabeza, and good carnitas and el pastor. Plus the young man working the register always lets me work on my Spanish.

I recommend LR is you are east side of downtown/golden hill/south park. I am sure there are 25 (100??) equally good places, but this is my neighborhood spot.

LOS NACHOS. CARNE ASADA burrito w/ JUST SOUR CREAM, OMG best, best....BEST burrito I have ever had. They make the food fast, and the prices are cheap, and the quality, omg, so amazing. It's a small restaurant, but they make the best damn food I have ever tasted.

I've eaten at MXN in Scripps and in RP. I was unfavorably impressed both times. Food might have been fresh, but it was horrible quality.

For quick, cheap Mexican we go to Los Primos, off Dove Canyon Road or else Jalapenos, in the Ralph's shopping center in CMR. For something a bit more luxurious we go to Mi Ranchita on Rancho Penasquitos Blvd.
