I tend to agree with this. Because these are real. Lots of good things about San Diego are hopes. Hopes aren't false, but they're not yet real. These are real right now.

One of the main reasons people move to San Diego is because of the weather. If you don't like the fact that the average highs go from 66 to 77 and the average lows go from 50 to 68, this isn't the place for you.

Please tell me what you think is best given my situation.
- Single male, late twenties: Either

- Want reasonable access to the city without living in it (I like peace and quiet in a suburban home): "Reasonable access to the city without living in it" seems to describe San Diego pretty well.

- Like warm and sunny weather, but also like experiencing the four seasons: Part I: San Diego. Part II: Do you really like four seasons or are you just saying that because that's what you grew up with and you don't think you're entitled to perfect weather all year? :P

- Like relaxed and laid-back attitudes, but also appreciate sophistication and ambition: Hmm...SD is a lot more laid back and I did notice a general lack of ambition here. There are still ambitious people, but it's not in your face.

- Eventually want kids and do not want to have to move to a new metropolitan area: Either, probably.

- Enjoy a healthy, active lifestyle with outdoor activities: San Diego

- Like beach views and the beach environment, but also like being able to go to a busy downtown area: Beach: SD. Downtown area, I'll say NY because DTSD has nothing on it.

- Whole family is in the NYC area: San Diego. Yes, really. If you move to San Diego then your family will have family in San Diego & will come visit you during the winter.

Don't want to be in the rat race and prefer a lower-stress day-to-day living experience: San Diego

Don't want to spend all day in the office and commuting to the office: Not really sure, this sounds more like it would depend on the job.

Like having a car: That's good, because you need a car in San Diego. But I'm sure you could have a car in the NY area too.

Want to own a single family detached home with a garage in the near future: Probably either.

Well, at 4pm it was 48 degrees and rainy at the airport, and the local mountains might get up to a foot of snow by tomorrow afternoon. Not sure if I'd call that a lack of seasons.

I think I misspoke about the seasons. I do like San Diego's weather. What I will miss, and I should've been more specific, is snow around Christmastime. Nothing like snow and Rockefeller Center during Christmas week, if you know what I mean.

Hmm...interesting perspective. Distance from family is the one thing that causes me to hesitate.

I know what you mean, and I've met plenty of people who still feel like a fish out of water if it's 70 degrees on Christmas Day.

I grew up in the DC area, and spent most of my life there. I hated the hot humid summers, and cold, snowy/icy winters. I finally moved to Tucson in the winter of 1988, and then came here. I don't miss it one bit, and have never been back.

What about family back home?

No family, just me and my cat.

That's my story, too!

I was born here, grew up in DC, and have always wanted to move back here. After being told I'd miss the four seasons and the next to perfect weather all the time would get boring, I've got this to say.

The four seasons can kiss my sun drenched butt!

The only problem is that I've become so used to the weather here that I say things that are just totally insane to people who don't live here. For example, I was talking to my sister who lives in Alaska, and I said, yeah, it's going to get cold here. It will drop into the 40s.

There was silence on the other side of the line.
