Actually SF has some of the highest median home values in the U.S. San Diego is not too far behind. Location will always be the reason for demand in housing. Especially as ones primary home.

You are making a good choice in moving to S.D. I just bought a house here. I am excited.

I want to visit S.F. I hear the downtown area up there is ten times bigger.

SD doesn't have the same conscience as No Cal, it's a bit more republican, big cars, not much car pooling etc. However it is slower, and you'll feel like you're on vacation for long time. There are many So. Asians, depending on your pocketbook, 4S ranch is a new community that is quite diverse and very Techie. As is Mira Mesa and Scripps ranch. There are many many other companies to choose from, but I don't know the salary ratio. lot's to think about, but since you don't have kids yet, why not go for it?

Being originally from NorCal and living in SoCal, I can say its way cheaper in San Diego. It's a different lifestyle down here, but bringing your NorCal down-to-earth personality will really help!
