Hi,

I've been looking to move to La Jolla village, and have a question about the nearby air station. Do planes produce a lot of noise? Thanks in advance!

Not bad in La Jolla itself. Much worse in UTC.

Thanks Sassberto!

I've heard the new F35s would produces twice as much noise... So the question is are they flying regularly over La Jolla?

They only fly during the day, when you're likely at work anyway. F-18's and F-22's are very loud. But you do get used to it. It's not like living next to a major commercial airport - a lot less air traffic. And it's kinda cool.

Personally, I'd hate to live in Ocean Beach or anywhere near Lindbergh Field, but I wouldn't have a problem buying a house in UTC.

I lived in UTC for 2 years and South UC for another 2 years and the noise wasn't that bad. I believe their flight path is suppose to be restricted over Sorrento Valley, but you can still hear them occasionally. You don't hear them that often, it's not really something I would be concerned with nearly as much as Lindberg Field noise.

I agree watching them would be cool, for 1 hour may be... once in a while

I live at of the North end of Gilman canyon (near Villa La Jolla Drive and Nobel) and it seems like we are getting a lot more flights over us now than we used to. In the past, the Navy jets appeared to follow a narrow flight path out over Torrey Pines, but the Marine jets appear to depart to the West on any vector they feel like following. Are Navy pilots just better pilots and follow the rules?

Quit complaining. That's the sound of freedom. And those jets have been flying there for longer than you have lived there, so...

I've had the displeasure of working in the Miramar and UTC areas for the better part of the last 7 years. UTC is better than Miramar, which to me is the noisiest place in town, between the "sounds of freedom" and the commercial trucking routes. Driving on Miramar Road is its own personal nightmare. I can't wait to find a job that's not in the area!
