If you mean the 32nd Street naval base, it's located where 32nd Street meets the bay. There's also a submarine base and a naval air station within San Diego bay. But back to your question. Yes it is fairly cheap to live near the base, AND THERE'S A REASON FOR THAT!!!! I would advise putting a bit more distance between yourself and the neighborhood that surrounds the base.

If you give us some more info about yourself, amount you have to spend, need for public transportation, age range, likes & dislikes in housing accommodation, we can point you towards a more suitable neighborhood.

Smile ok

Well I really want to be as close as I possibly can to the water...I'm 38, I drive so public transportation isnt an issue. I dont know the difference between San Diego and Coronado, but what I understood was living near the naval base would give me a nice view, and alot of house for the money.
I am looking for a house 3 bedrooms, $450,000. Thanks

The area around the base are probably the roughest neighborhoods in all of San Diego. 5-10 miles east and south is pretty rough too. North is downtown SD which is pricey.

3BR for 450k - look at western La Mesa, College/Rolando, Lemon Grove. 94 commute to 32nd street is 10-15 minutes at most. North of 94 is best, but you might want to look at North Encanto which is kind of a nice area surrounded by rougher neighborhoods.

This message leaves me confused. Do you want to be near the 32nd Street Naval Base or the Coronado Naval Air Station?

Or perhaps is your desire for a bayside community so important to you that you are willing to make the safety/crime tradeoff? For a few people crime issues don't matter. If you are one of those people, please let us know, and we'll try to help you to understand the Barrio Logan neighborhood.

Coronado is prime. There are no bad neighborhoods there. Typically when people in SD talk about "the base" they are talking about 32nd street. Coronado is the Naval Air Station.

the link below is pretty typical of what you'll be looking at in Coronado.

Coronado is going to be expensive. Small 2 bedroom homes can run over $1,000,000.
