The black population has dropped by 50% in Oakland since the 1990s!

I understand many families wanted to leave the city after what it had went through in the last few decades but where did they go?

Was the migration spread across the country?

Was it to other neighborhoods in the Bay Area?

Was it to predominantly black areas in the South?

They often talk about blacks leaving Oakland during this time period but never mention where they moved to, any help?

Solano County, Eastern Contra Costa County, and Sacramento. Probably places like Tracy as well.

Most did not leave willingly. It is the result of hardcore gentrification pushes that were instituted by Governor Moonbeam when he was mayor

I lived in Antioch from 2006 to 2008, I know thousands moved there. When one rides the 300 bus from Antioch to Pittsburg BART, the riders are 60 to 80% black. There are two very different types of blacks that moved to Antioch in the past two decades - those that came to the older parts of town seeking landlords that would accept Section 8, and those that sold their Oakland homes and bought a brand new 2500 square foot house. Not all are victims, as WizardOfRadical makes it seem - thousands cashed out willingly to get away from Oakland's violence and poor schools.

I think this is related. There is an exhibition right now at the Oakland Museum of California on gentrification. I'm going to view it in the next few weeks. I've attached an article about it and one can figure it out from there. I don't think it is all bad. It's bad for certain socioeconomic groups. One of the installations says that 1,000 units are being evicted a month. That is complete rubbish. Anyway, hear is the article:Oakland Artists Take On Gentrification As Tech Boom Threatens Their City

Things changed as soon as they got that white mayor in Oakland.

Not really. Things started changing noticeably around 2010-2012, long before Schaaf became mayor.

Sacramento will be the most chocolate big city in CA per capita after the 2020 census.

The new houses in Antioch cost as much as the Oakland ghetto. Those are people selling houses in the ghetto and moving to an exurban ghetto with tract homes. And that was a thing of the late 90's. Since the great recession the number of loans to blacks has dwindled.

The top 12 banks approved just 4 home loans for blacks to purchase homes in Oakland for the entire year of 2013. There is literally a systematic effort by banks and government to purge blacks from Oakland.

Even the two best players on the Warriors last season are not even real blacks. They are barely black.

It's ok. It's not necessarily a bad thing to have mobility and not stagnate in place for decades with no movement at all.
