Humm, I notice the comments here then compare it to "Where to meet women in the Silicon Valley" thread and the comments that there are many more single men than women in the Valley - something is missing. When my daughter was single she mentioned a Dinner for Six program as a venue for single professionals to meet. Don't overlook the possibility that her faith group may have meet-up too.

Were I the OPs Mom I would recommend she rent first close to work and explore the area. I don't recommend living in San Francisco and commuting to Mountain View, too expensive.

My girlfriend lives in San Jose and it's just her and her dog in an average apartment. She's struggling with take home of $4,500 per month.

If you are currently earning less than $75,000 you will be getting a rise in pay, living at the same standard of living you are now living under.

Not taking this into consideration, is the one thing that really shocks people when they move there.
Are you kidding me??? NYC is more expensive than the Bay Area. Have you looked at COL in Manhattan?

I have an apartment and I take home less than that and am doing ok. The key is to avoid the corporate apartments at all cost. It's better to live in an older building and skip the dog. The places that take pets charge higher rents. The other thing that helps is to live in a studio and not a 1BR.
