We left Venice Island on Monday (April 4th) and dropped off our rental car at TPA. I was amazed how quiet it was at the airport. The TSA agent said Sunday was a zoo! We enjoyed our time in Florida but it's nice to be back home in CT even though there have been a few snow showers and hail since our return. Thank you Florida for the hospitality!

Thx for spending time & money here, & we hope to see you again next season. I'm sure yesterday (Sunday April 10th) was a zoo at TPA too.

Most visitors have left now. Spring breaks are mostly over, many snowbirds have left, & other vacationers are enjoying Spring time back home.

Locals here will start returning to their favorite beaches, restaurants, & retailers. This is when I travel around Florida the most, followed by October-November.

Here by Ellenton and 75 the traffic is still bad. I think by April 30 it will start to look normal again. The Canadians took over this year. I still don’t know how they qualify to rent the lots in MH parks with no social security.

Cash? Repeat business? No questions asked?

They very likely pay all cash 100% way in advance, and a large security deposit, in case of any damages.

I saw Canadian plates this year, but I saw more pre-covid. I don't think that demographic is all the way back to normal yet.

I'm noticing a general clearing out now, especially the spring break families. I'm seeing fewer families with school age kids on the beach now. The beach parking lots are not overlowing mid-week anymore.

I also think the 3-4 month renters have mostly left, but the snowbirds that own 2nd homes here are still mostly here. I think they'll head back at the end of April, or 1st week in May.

So many more people have moved into our area permanently, the clearing out will not seem as pronounced as it used to be. We'll be settling into a new normal population level in the off-season. The next census is going to be eye popping.

I saw a ton of canadian plates mainly ontario! Still some stragglers left.

I agree about the census. Especially with the cost of housing, insurance, everything going up i would suspect people are unloading their northern houses and living here full time and not leaving after season. Sell the northern house while the market is hot. I see more older people with Florida plates now.

The only reason some keep the Northern house is be close to friends & family. They could rent a VRBO back home for less than the carrying cost of that 2nd Northern home.

Now is the time to unload that Northern home...near the peak of this market.

I think you'all are right about the number of people moving into the area permanently, seems to increase exponentially as time goes on.

While it seems covid and all the fun we've had with that have escalated those transplant numbers, I've had business people, especially healthcare providers, tell me for several years now that significant numbers of their snowbird clients have stayed in the area, not going back "up north" at the end of the season. They've said( especially the doctors and dentists), have said they haven't noticed much in the way of slowdowns in their businesses out of season. Kind of looked that way to me too, but having a local business would really make someone notice that sort of thing.

Perhaps a few hot Summers will change some minds. Most of them have never experienced heat & humidity like ours for 5 months straight before. My Dentist, & PCP said the exact same thing...they never left. They should know.

It might, who knows? I'd also think maybe a bad hurricane with lots of damage and power out for a couple months ( like what happened to us in Miami in 1992) might drive some people off but I can't wish such a thing on anyone and I sure don't want to live through another Andrew and two years aftermath again.
