It's still early and there is a lot of uncertainty. It could amount to nothing but it's best to stay vigilant just in case (because currently FL is within the cone).

"There is still high uncertainty in the long-range track, but Florida is in the cone and most computer models converge on the state."

Sarasota, Manatee county brace for potential Hurricane Hermine

https://www.heraldtribune.com/story/...ck/8089454001/

Pearce said the tropical depression is currently predicted to near the Sarasota-Manatee area of Florida's coast as a hurricane early to mid-next week.

"The track is still kind of uncertain. The center (of the storm) wobbles in the early stages. We're also not sure that it'll certainly make that turn towards Florida."

The latest information from the National Hurricane Center casts a cone of uncertainty encompassing all of south Florida.

"Since most of the peninsula is within the cone, the center could fall anywhere," Pearce said.

5 p.m. update: Sarasota-Manatee under state of emergency due to storm expected to become Hurricane Ian

https://www.heraldtribune.com/story/...ls/8089085001/

5 p.m. Update:

In preparing for Tropical Depression 9, Gov. Ron DeSantis issued an executive order, declaring a "state of emergency" for 24 Florida counties, including Sarasota and Manatee, in the potential path of the coming storm.

DeSantis also asked for a "federal pre-landfall emergency declaration" to make key resources and support made available to the state from the federal government. It requires the approval of President Biden.

It's not even a storm yet, and they have already decided where it's going to land.

Are the grocery stores out of water yet?

It’s officially TS Ian now.

This feels like Charley or Irma all over again. When Tuesday comes don’t be surprised if it does something unexpected at the last minute like those two storms.

Just about the best I saw during Irma
Great explanations, thoughtful, and doesn’t rush to judgement

This depression is about 4:25 after Fiona info—calls it TD 98 in this

Re sandbags
How many bags would it take to protect sliding door space on lanai?
Have 3 sets of sliders
Can only get 10 bags free

Just remember they have been doing this for long time
Computers have had past storms plotted into their algorithm for predicting outcome
Weather forecasting is an evolving science because while on a map it looks 1 dimensional, in reality hurricanes operate in multidimensional physical space and time…
So even though changes happen you can’t wait until the last minute to react
You should respect the advice
Right now the odds are at least 50/50 it will come up the west coast…not good for us
And looks like a cat 4
