Hi-I visited sarasota last summer and fell in love with it so I am officially moving to sarasota in december. I'm looking for a decent culinary school in the area. I have found the Tampa Bay art institute but don't really want to drive to tampa from sarasota...also the art institute is expensive! Any help at all with this matter would be GREATLY appreciated-Thanks!

Default another question

I am aware of keiser, it has bad online reviews but I am open to anything good someone may have to say about it.
Also I was wondering if the sarasota area has any kind of gay/lesbian scene?? Everyone in and around the sarasota area seem relatively nice, I am wondering though if a butch lesbian would stick out like a sore thumb?

New College in Sarasota was ranked the #2 college in the US for "gay community accepted" by the Princeton Review. So I think you'll be OK

just be aware that culinary schools have become area where people are paying some high fees for education and expect when they graduate to get placement in quality kitchen/restaurant...and be able to pay their loans off...
most of the time that does not happen--many restaurants prefer to train people their own way by working them up through the kitchen...
many people finishing culinary school still start out doing kitchen prep work at min wage...

I would definitely ask for specific referrals about what students from that school got work in specific restaurants and follow up by trying to contact that student and see how it went....
I have read that many graduates get disgusted with how going to a culinary school really made no difference in their professional resume/desired skill set---and they just gave up
maybe they were not that talented anyway...but just be aware that these schools are out to make money...
there could be very good community college that does basically the same thing for less...
