WOW WOW WOW is RIGHT! This is one of the most glowing reviews of Savannah I've ever read, and the reason I created this thread! Thanks for finding / posting!

This is one of the most urban, most walkable, most beautiful cities in the world. This is not an exaggeration in any way. I knew this was going to be a pretty city but, I was not ready for just how beautiful it is. Beautiful is not really an adequate word. It might be as perfect an urban place as you can possibly make in modern-day America. It is a stunningly gorgeous city; and small though it is, Savannah exudes a sophistication and walkability that is typically found only in the largest American cities.

Default Buddy Golf

Buddy golf is when a group of guys go to a destination to play golf. Usually 6, 8, 12 guys. A recent edition (read it on a plane late last nite) of Golf magazine named Savannah 21 most popular of 60 locations.

That's probably because Savannah and Hilton Head share an airport. I've been thinking about putting together a television show about buddy golf...

Correct...but I'm a Savannah supporter so I skew the news, sorry LOL.

TV show sounds exciting. Let me know if you want a production assistant as I am available.

Tybee Island named America's "18th favorite beach town" by Travel and Leisure Magazine:
America's Favorite Beach Towns- Page 19 - Articles | Travel + Leisure

(St. Simons Island is 1st, Amelia Island is 3rd, Beaufort, SC is 16th)

By geographical location, that puts Savannah in a pretty great spot for beach towns in close proximity!

We experience the same #1 Travel Destination articles all the time as well. Yes both Savannah and Charleston have beautiful downtown areas and are great for tourism. Do you feel that sometimes these articles can be a tad misleading? I lived on Henry Street in downtown Savannah and I can tell you that most of the "locals"'s time is not spent walking around River Street or taking carriage rides. It's fighting traffic on the south side or here in Charleston, on I-26.

Not trying to be a Debbie Downer, I know that all the publicity is wonderful, but it also brings with it sprawl, higher prices, and congestion. Do you think that the tourism industry and businesses that thrive off of attracting new folks to an area (like mine) should be more upfront with not only the positives but also some negatives (if only a few) to give people the whole picture. I feel that both should be mentioned, neither Charleston or Savannah are Utopia after all.

What's your thoughts? Are you happy with the major influxes for northerners to your city? Can you live with the lack of infrastucture, traffic, higher prices, more polution, etc? What about when they get tired of your city and decide to move to the next virgin coastline? What then?

Again, sorry for the negativity, just looking for some honest feedback as to the other side of tourism and the attracting of visitors.

^^^The problem I have in responding is: OP very specifically asked that neg comments be handled in separate thread or another place. I'm fine with that. And, I know how the snowball starts to roll after one neg or comparison post.
