I'm also wondering about Springfield, MO and Richmond, VA. Springfield is a shabby dump. Richmond is a lot like Savannah with a bunch of historic architecture and a high crime rate.

On the other hand, I've heard that Salt Lake City is pretty cool, despite (or perhaps because of) the Church of LDS. I'll be going hiking near there soon and will let you know if that's the case.

Meh, to each their own. I have found Bonna Bella to be "food with a view." In other words, nice view. The prices are higher than average, and the service leaves a lot to be desired. I've sworn off the place. You can get better fare elsewhere, and I live on the dang marsh.

This is kinda interesting, and something I've often wondered about: Whitepages.com has compiled a total of the number of people named after popular places (i.e. Savannah):

A wonderful Labor Day weekend travel report on Savannah with some beautiful photos and a cute baby:

I can’t say enough good things about Savannah. It’s got sass like New Orleans, charm like Charleston, but it’s definitely more laid back than either one. Think slower and more residential – perfect for families. Next time we’d probably take a side trip to nearby Tybee Island or Hilton Head, SC, but for these four days we just wanted to sit and savor Savannah. Full of wonderful people, top notch service, beautiful scenery, and some serious southern charm.

VACATION FACEOFF: SAVANNAH VS CHARLESTON

Sorry, Charleston, but Savannah’s got you beat here: The Telfair Museum of Art, in the city’s historic district, is the South’s oldest public art museum; it’s also home to more than 4,500 American and European paintings, sculptures and other works of fine art – free for the viewing.

Savannah happens to be America’s first planned city. Among the must-see stops is the Savannah Theatre, the country’s oldest continually operating theater. And the kids will love this: the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace, Savannah’s first National Historic Landmark, honors the Girl Scouts’ founder.

A TALE OF TWO CITIES

For years, people have debated which Southern Belle is the better city. So I went to Savannah and Charleston to compare and contrast the two.

the seasoned traveler with george bauer

They’ve been rivals for more than two centuries — two beautiful Southern cities known for their well-preserved historic districts, booming tourism, and abundance of Southern charm. Whether debating which city has the best restaurants or the prettiest homes, this ongoing game of one-upmanship has been in place since 1733.
